To analyze a single center's experiences with ocriplasmin on vitreomacular traction (VMT) and the rate of VMT release, full-thickness macular hole (full-thickness MH) closure, and best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) changes. ⋯ In clinical practice, intravitreal injection of ocriplasmin achieved VMT release in approximately one half of treated eyes, with a 27% closure rate for full-thickness MH. Transient ellipsoid changes were evident in 26% of treated eyes, more common in eyes with successful VMT release.

Comparison of lateral rectus muscle re-recession and medial rectus muscle resection for treatment of postoperative exotropia.
To compare the outcomes of unilateral lateral rectus muscle re-recession and medial rectus muscle resection for treatment of recurrent or persistent exotropia. ⋯ Surgery on a single muscle can be used to treat moderate-angle recurrent or persistent exotropia. Unilateral re-recession of the lateral rectus muscle and medial rectus muscle resection have equivalent success rates.

To examine the relative qualifications of expert witnesses testifying on behalf of plaintiffs vs defendants in ophthalmology malpractice litigation. ⋯ Ophthalmologist expert witnesses testifying for both plaintiffs and defendants had over 30 years of experience and high scholarly impact. Practitioners testifying on behalf of plaintiffs were statistically less likely to work in an academic setting and have subspecialty training. Scholarly impact of expert witnesses appeared to affect trial outcomes. Surgical societies should stringently police for appropriate expert witness testimony given by both plaintiff and defense experts in malpractice litigation.

To describe the rates of myocardial infarction (MI), stroke, and mortality in patients who have treatment with intravitreal anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) injections for age-related macular degeneration (AMD). ⋯ The incidence rate of MI, stroke, and death in this cohort of AMD patients treated with anti-VEGF was low, and was not significantly higher than the age-adjusted incidence rate of these events in the Singapore population.

Comparison of smartphone ophthalmoscopy with slit-lamp biomicroscopy for grading diabetic retinopathy.
To assess the accuracy and reliability of smartphone ophthalmoscopy, we compared the ability of a smartphone ophthalmoscope with that of a slit-lamp biomicroscope to grade diabetic retinopathy (DR) in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM). ⋯ Smartphone ophthalmoscopy showed considerable agreement with dilated retinal biomicroscopy for the grading of DR. The portability, affordability, and connectivity of a smartphone ophthalmoscope make smartphone ophthalmoscopy a promising technique for community screening programs.
