To evaluate the characteristics and outcomes of patients treated for open globe injuries sustained at work and to compare these results to patients injured outside of work. ⋯ Work-related injuries can cause significant morbidity in a young population of patients. Based on average patient follow-up and final visual acuity, those injured at work do at least as well as, if not potentially better than, those with open globe injuries sustained outside of work. While the statistically higher rate of IOFB in the work population is not surprising, it does emphasize the importance of strict adherence to the use of eye protection in the workplace.

Uveitis-glaucoma-hyphema syndrome and corneal decompensation in association with cosmetic iris implants.
To report a case and management of uveitis-glaucoma-hyphema (UGH) syndrome and corneal decompensation associated with cosmetic iris implants. ⋯ Cosmetic iris implantation may lead to UGH syndrome and corneal decompensation. Therefore, its use should be reserved for patients with significant medical indications, and avoided in patients with intact natural iridies, until more short-term and long-term safety data are available.

To evaluate the behavior and attitudes among ophthalmology trainees toward pharmaceutical promotions. ⋯ Ophthalmology trainees have frequent encounters with pharmaceutical representatives. The trainees tend to consider their peers more susceptible than themselves to the influence of pharmaceutical promotions. Pharmaceutical representatives seem able to change prescribing practices among trainees they contact by providing information or leaving drug samples. Many trainees have not received any education in this area from their programs.

To report the results of intervention with percutaneously injected n-butyl cyanoacrylate (NBCA) to embolize orbital varices followed by surgical resection. ⋯ Percutaneously injected NBCA seems to be useful and safe as an aid in visualization and hemorrhage prevention during surgical resection of symptomatic orbital varices.
