To report the "salt and pepper"(SP) eye pain as a herald symptom of pontine ischemia. ⋯ Impending pontine ischemia is an important differential diagnosis in patients with acute ocular pain. Prompt neurovascular evaluation and treatment may avoid devastating brainstem infarcts that cause death or long-term disability, particularly in patients with basilar artery occlusive disease.

Surveillance of the eye and vision in clinical trials of CP-675,206 for metastatic melanoma.
To determine the ocular safety of CP-675,206 (Pfizer, New York, New York, USA), a fully human anti-cytotoxic T lymphocyte-associated antigen 4 monoclonal antibody in clinical trials of immunotherapy of metastatic melanoma. ⋯ In this study, CP-675,206 immunotherapy for metastatic melanoma did not adversely affect the eye or vision.

Deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty by big-bubble technique for treatment corneal stromal opacities.
To evaluate the efficacy of using the big-bubble technique of deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK) for newer indications. ⋯ DALK using the big-bubble technique can be useful in treating corneal stromal dystrophies, corneal clouding attributable to mucopolysaccharidoses, and stromal scar attributable to infectious keratitis.

To assess decreased retinal function associated with high cumulative doses of hydroxychloroquine using multifocal electroretinography (mfERG). ⋯ Functional testing of the retina with mfERG shows locally decreased retinal function in a large fraction of patients referred for evaluation who have taken high cumulative doses of hydroxychloroquine. A prudent mfERG testing strategy is proposed.
