Cognitive interviewing of the US National Cancer Institute's Patient-Reported Outcomes version of the Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (PRO-CTCAE).
The National Cancer Institute's Patient-Reported Outcomes version of the Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (PRO-CTCAE) is a library of question items that enables patient reporting of adverse events (AEs) in clinical trials. This study contributes content validity evidence of the PRO-CTCAE by incorporating cancer patient input of the relevance and comprehensiveness of the item library. ⋯ This study provides evidence confirming comprehension of the US English language versions of items in the PRO-CTCAE library for measuring symptomatic AEs from the patient perspective within the context of cancer treatment. Several minor changes were made to the items to improve item clarity, comprehension, and ease of response judgment. This study helps to establish the content validity of PRO-CTCAE items for patient reporting of AEs during cancer treatment.

Changes in life satisfaction in persons with spinal cord injury during and after inpatient rehabilitation: adaptation or measurement bias?
To analyze changes in life satisfaction (LS) scores over time in persons with spinal cord injury (SCI) and to interpret what these changes mean. ⋯ Diverging patterns of change were found and that were interpreted as adaptation or scale recalibration. Recalibration could also be considered healthy rebalancing after SCI. Being able to compare different LS ratings can facilitate the interpretation of change in and stability of LS.

Importance of patient satisfaction with care in predicting osteoarthritis-specific health-related quality of life one year after total joint arthroplasty.
After previous results observed with a generic health-related quality of life (HRQoL) instrument, we aimed to confirm that immediate postoperative patient satisfaction with care predicts self-perceived health 1 year after total hip replacement/total knee replacement (THR/TKR), using an osteoarthritis (OA)-specific HRQoL questionnaire. ⋯ These new findings with an OA-specific HRQOL questionnaire confirm that immediate postoperative satisfaction with care after THR/TKR for OA is a good predictor of self-perceived health status 1 year after surgery. Satisfaction with care therefore represents a relevant indicator of patient-reported health and is quickly accessible to clinicians.

To determine the factors associated with short-term recovery of health status following chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) exacerbation. ⋯ Reducing exacerbation frequency and provision of adequate PCP follow-up after ED visit may help improve the recovery of health status following acute exacerbations of COPD.

Measuring breast cancer-specific health-related quality of life in South Asia: psychometric properties of the Sinhala version of the EORTC QLQ-BR23.
To evaluate the psychometric properties of the Sinhala version of the breast cancer-specific health-related quality of life (HRQL) module of the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (QLQ-BR23). ⋯ Overall psychometric results for the Sinhala version of the QLQ-BR23 confirmed it as a reliable and valid questionnaire for assessing breast cancer-specific HRQL in Sri Lanka.
