Observational StudyNurses' responses to monitor alarms in an intensive care unit: An observational study.
The present study aimed to determine the types of monitor alarms and nurses' responses to them in an adult intensive care unit. ⋯ In the present study, according to response requirement, the division of the alarms was different. The number of alarms that do not reflect the clinical status of the patient was high. It was found that as the false alarm rate increased, the response rate of nurses to these alarms decreased.

Randomized Controlled TrialThe effects of preoperative education of cardiac patients on haemodynamic parameters, comfort, anxiety and patient-ventilator synchrony: A randomised, controlled trial.
Patients on mechanical ventilation are likely to suffer stress, which may lead to problems of patient-ventilator synchrony, anxiety, haemodynamic instability and decrease in comfort levels. ⋯ Compared to the participants in the control group, the participants in the intervention group who received education had higher patient-ventilator synchrony, comfort and haemodynamic stability levels, as well as lower anxiety levels when they were under mechanical ventilation, showing that results were better in the intervention group than the control group.

Meta AnalysisDiagnostic test accuracy meta-analysis of PRE-DELIRIC (PREdiction of DELIRium in ICu patients): A delirium prediction model in intensive care practice.
To review and examine the evidence on diagnostic test accuracy of PRE-DELIRIC (PREdiction of DELIRium in ICu patients) for predicting delirium risk in critically ill patients. ⋯ We suggest that the PRE-DELIRIC model can be applied in the intensive care unit according to its good diagnostic test accuracy. However, this finding should be interpreted with caution due to the heterogeneity of this meta-analysis.

Patients' perceptions of an intensive care unit diary written by relatives: A hermeneutic phenomenological study.
To explore patients' perceptions of an intensive care unit diary written by relatives including pictures added by staff. ⋯ Although diaries kept by relatives confront patients with consequences beyond their own suffering, they are informative and promote understanding of what patient and family experienced during critical illness. The diaries expressed how much the relatives cared for the patient thus paving the way for mutual support and understanding. Diaries authored by relatives represent a new element to ICU diaries that have evolved from a nursing intervention toward family participation.
