Validation of the nursing workload scoring systems "Nursing Activities Score" (NAS), and "Therapeutic Intervention Scoring System for Critically Ill Children" (TISS-C) in a Greek Paediatric Intensive Care Unit.
To assess the reliability and validity of the Greek version of Nursing Activities Score (NAS), and Therapeutic Intervention Scoring System for Critically Ill Children (TISS-C) in a Greek Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). ⋯ These results support the validity of P-NAS and TISS-C scales to be used in greek PICUs.

Randomized Controlled TrialMusic intervention to prevent delirium among older patients admitted to a trauma intensive care unit and a trauma orthopaedic unit.
Evaluate music listening for delirium prevention among patients admitted to a Trauma Intensive Care and Trauma Orthopaedic Unit. The Roy Adaptation Model provided the theoretical framework focusing on modifying contextual stimuli. ⋯ Music addresses pathophysiologic mechanisms that contribute to delirium; neurotransmitter imbalance, inflammation and acute physiologic stressors. Music to prevent delirium is one of few that provide support in a critical care setting.

Case ReportsCarbon monoxide poisoning in a young, healthy patient: A case study of heart failure recovery after Hyperbaric Oxygenation Treatment.
The effectiveness of hyperbaric oxygen treatment for acute cardiac diseases is unknown. Similarly, the effectiveness of hyperbaric oxygen treatment for carbon monoxide intoxication is also unknown, particularly for cases in which carboxyhemoglobin (COHb) levels return to normal. Our case study revolved around a healthy twenty-year-old male patient, who suffered from carbon monoxide intoxication. ⋯ The patient discharged the following day without complaints or the need for long-term medication. Hyperbaric treatment for carbon monoxide intoxication with compromised cardiac function should be considered even when carboxyhaemoglobin levels have returned to normal. This is due to mitochondrial impairment caused by carbon monoxide intoxication that eventually can lead to significant cardiac deterioration.

Sustainability of a nurse-driven early progressive mobility protocol and patient clinical and psychological health outcomes in a neurological intensive care unit.
To determine sustainable impact of an early progressive mobility protocol on mobility level and clinical outcomes. ⋯ Ongoing implementation of an early mobility programme in a neurological intensive care environment led to sustained improvement in patients' level of mobility, length of unit and hospital stay, depression, anxiety and hostility levels.

Family-centered bereavement practices in Danish intensive care units: a cross-sectional national survey.
Mortality in Danish intensive care units (ICUs) continues at 27%, resulting in a large number of bereaved family members being cared for in the ICU. ⋯ Most ICUs in Denmark offered bereavement follow-up services, but these varied in their approach, were not evidence-based, and lacked formal evaluation. More systematic quality improvement of bereavement practices is required.
