Randomized Controlled Trial
Satisfaction with modes of telemedicine delivery during COVID-19: A randomized, single-blind, parallel group, noninferiority trial.
Little is known about satisfaction with different modes of telemedicine delivery. The objective of this study was to determine whether patient satisfaction with phone-only was noninferior to video visits. ⋯ Among a group of diverse, established older or underserved patients, the satisfaction rate for phone-only was noninferior to video visits. These findings could impact practice and policies governing telemedicine.

A novel scoring system called Non-invasive Diabetes Score (NDS) was developed. The model showed prominent discrimination and calibration in the original study population. However, before a new model could be adopted in clinical practice and acquire widespread use, it is necessary to confirm that it also performs well in external validations in different settings of people. The aim of this study was to investigate whether the novel user-friendly score predicting diabetes mellitus (DM) could have satisfying performance in predicting DM in Southwest China in a 15-year prospective cohort study. ⋯ Our external validation suggested NDS had possibly helpful discrimination and satisfying calibration for predicting DM during 15-year follow-up.

The aim of this study was to assess the correlation of the serum B-cell activating factor (BAFF), A proliferation-inducing ligand (APRIL) and interleukin (IL)-21 with carotid intima-media thickness (cIMT) to evaluate their efficacy as non-invasive biomarkers for the risk of premature development of atherosclerosis. ⋯ Circulating BAFF and APRIL in patients with SLE were correlated to disease activity and cIMT, suggesting that they could be used as a peripheral blood biomarker for the occurrence of premature atherosclerosis in SLE.

Deep venous thrombosis (DVT) is a thrombus formed in the deep venous cavity and can cause a fatal pulmonary embolism. Since circulating miRNAs are used as molecular markers for the early warning and diagnosis of various diseases, such as tumors and cardiovascular diseases, the purpose of the present study was initially to identify differential expression circulating miRNAs in plasma, and then explore potential biomarkers for DVT. ⋯ The levels of miR-125a-5p and miR-223-3p were the most significantly changed in patients with DVT before and after endovascular interventions; together with the classic biomarker D-dimer, they can be used as a potential biomarker for diagnostic and therapeutic process of DVT.

In regards to breast cancer (BC), survival or disease-free periods are still compromised mainly in Triple Negative (TN) and HER2 tumors. The participation of estrogen receptor (ER) has been reported as crucial in the signaling pathways, including the NOTCH pathway. The study was aimed to evaluate the expression of NOTCH1 and NOTCH3 in BC and its relationship with the presence of ER, as well as with relapses. ⋯ NOTCH1 and NOTCH3 were found to be overexpressed mainly in ERN tumors. HER2 and TN groups, are related to higher relapse rates. Therefore, anti-NOTCH therapy could be justified and implemented in conventional treatments of high-risk BC groups.
