Renal artery stenosis (RAS) is known to co-exist with heart failure (HF), however the impact of RAS on rates of acute kidney injury during an acute HF hospitalization, and adverse events after acute HF hospitalizations has not been well studied. ⋯ RAS is prevalent among subjects with acute HF, associated with higher rates of AKI during HF hospitalization, and associated with higher rates of recurrent HF hospitalization during follow-up.

Liver involvement during infectious mononucleosis is common, but jaundice is considered rare. This study aimed to investigate serum bilirubin concentrations in patients with infectious mononucleosis and immune abnormalities associated with jaundice. ⋯ Transient hyperbilirubinemia is common during severe (in-hospital) infectious mononucleosis in adult patients. Patients with hyperbilirubinemia have less frequent pharyngitis symptoms and more frequent abdominal symptoms. Hyperbilirubinemia during infectious mononucleosis is associated with immune activation markers.

Older patients with upper gastrointestinal diseases may lack disease-specific symptoms that are required to make the correct diagnosis. This study aimed to compare the gastroparesis demographics, clinical presentation, and surgical management between the older adult and young populations. ⋯ Older adults had more early satiety and bloating, whereas younger patients had more nausea with vomiting and abdominal pain.

Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is associated with increased mortality in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD). The prevalence of PH within ESRD as measured by right heart catheterization (RHC) is poorly described, and the correlation of BNP to pulmonary artery pressure (PAP) is unknown. ⋯ In ESRD patients being considered for renal transplantation, PH is highly prevalent and BNP levels are elevated and significantly correlated with higher PAP. BNP may be a useful non-invasive marker of PH in these patients.
