Differential diagnosis between benign ascites and malignant ascites remains challenging in clinical practice, the aim of our study is to determine the differential value of the ratio of ascitic-serum tumor markers between benign ascites and malignant ascites. ⋯ Diagnostic algorithm based on ascitic tumor markers and ascites-serum tumor marker ratio exhibited an excellent performance in distinguishing benign and malignant ascites, which should be recommended in patients with new-onset ascites in clinical practice.

Perianal abscess is a common disease among adults, necessitating surgical drainage. We aimed to assess the role of microbiology and other factors in prolonged hospitalization of patients with perianal abscesses. ⋯ This study identified clinical and microbiological risk factors for prolonged hospitalization in patients with perianal abscesses. Further studies are needed to evaluate the association between specific pathogens and rates of complications.
