One of the goals of the Affordable Care Act is to decrease hospital readmissions. While widely adhered to, there is no published research to support the practice of delaying discharge if patients exhibit fever or hypothermia in the preceding 24 h, which is the focus of our study. ⋯ Abnormal body temperature 24 h prior to discharge was not useful for predicting the probability of readmission.

In Japan, during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, patients with non-hypoxia are recommended to recuperate at home or in pre-hospital facilities. However, it was observed that unexpected hypoxia may occur and become severe subsequently in patients whose symptoms were initially expected to improve naturally. The aim of this study is to validate biomarkers that can predict at an early stage the emergence of hypoxia in COVID-19 patients without hypoxia. ⋯ Elevated serum CysC and CRP levels were associated with the emergence of hypoxia during the clinical course in COVID-19 patients without hypoxia. These findings may help determine the need for hospitalization in initially non-hypoxic COVID-19 patients.

Previous studies have demonstrated an association between proton pump inhibitors (PPI) use and vitamin B12 deficiency. However, data regarding PPI use and elevated serum homocysteine level, an important marker of vitamin B12 deficiency, are scant. ⋯ According to our study, no association was found between PPI medication use and vitamin B12 deficiency or hyperhomocysteinemia. Patients receiving PPI medications had slightly higher levels of vitamin B12 and homocysteine, however these differences were too small to have any clinical relevance.

In this study, we have done structural and functional analysis of rs1800932 rs1042821 polymorphisms and tried to estimate any association of these polymorphisms with clinical outcomes in north Indian lung cancer patients. ⋯ These results suggest that MSH6 rs1800932 rs1042821 polymorphisms are involved in increasing the overall survival of lung cancer patients, further confirmed by computational analysis.
