Nasopharyngeal cancer (NPC) is a rare cancer type with a low five-year survival rate. Dysregulation of PYCR1 and miR-150-5p has been involved in the development of various cancers. However, the molecular mechanism of the miR-150-5p-PYCR1 axis in NPC remains unclear. ⋯ We clarified that miR-150-5p attenuated NPC tumorigenesis through reducing PYCR1 expression. This provides a new perspective of NPC involving both miR-150-5p and PYCR1 for the treatment of NPC.

Review Case Reports
A Case of Hepatic Tuberculosis with Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome.
Hepatic tuberculosis (TB) is a rare type of extrapulmonary TB. Due to the nonspecific clinical symptoms and imaging manifestations, hepatic TB with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection is easy to be misdiagnosed. We report a case of hepatic TB with acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS), which was initially misdiagnosed as general bacterial liver abscess even after the patient received needle biopsy. ⋯ For liver abscess in patients with HIV, the pathogens are more complex than HIV negative patients. Some uncommon pathogens, such as TB and fungi, should also be taken into consideration. For the hepatic TB without abscess formation, pathogenic test using washing solution of punctured liver tissue sample should be attached importance.

Alcoholic liver disease is caused by excessive alcohol consumption that results in an inflammatory response and fibrosis. We have recognized that patients with alcoholic cirrhosis often have unremarkable liver enzyme values. ⋯ Aminotransferase levels are often unremarkable in patients with alcohol related cirrhosis and bear no relationship to clinical events or outcomes. Clinicians should be cautious when interpreting aminotransferases in patients with alcoholic cirrhosis.

The differential diagnosis of tuberculous pleural effusion (TPE) and parapneumonic pleural effusion (PPE) is challenging due to similar clinical manifestations and body fluid biochemical profiles. Thyroid hormone levels change in response to lymphocyte proliferation in the peripheral blood of patients with mycobacterial infections such as tuberculosis; therefore, this study aimed to investigate the utility of assessing thyroid hormone levels to aid in the differential diagnosis of TPE and PPE. ⋯ Increased FT3 and FT4 levels could potentially be used for the differential diagnosis of TPE and PPE.

The outcomes of patients with sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are largely unknown. The purpose of this study was to assess mortality, trends, predictors, and outcomes in patients of SCA and COPD from a large inpatient administrative database. ⋯ SCA in settings of COPD may have high mortality when compared to patients with SCA and no concomitant COPD. Further research delving into potential mechanisms for SCA in COPD patients is warranted.
