Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyEfficacy and safety of methantheline bromide (Vagantin(®) ) in axillary and palmar hyperhidrosis: results from a multicenter, randomized, placebo-controlled trial.
Focal hyperhidrosis can severely affect quality of life. So far, knowledge on the effect of systemic therapy of focal hyperhidrosis is limited. ⋯ Fifty milligrams methantheline bromide three times a day is an effective and safe treatment of axillary hyperhidrosis.

Acute phase inflammatory markers in patients with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)-induced acute urticaria/angioedema and after aspirin challenge.
Active chronic urticaria, identified as a mast cell- and basophil-dependent inflammatory disorder of the skin is able to elicit acute phase response (APR). However, systemic inflammatory response in different types of urticaria is poorly characterized. ⋯ These results indicate that an acute systemic inflammatory response is activated in patients with NSAIDs-induced urticaria and/or angioedema. The study supports the evidence proving that up-regulation of CRP and IL-6 in urticaria/angioedema does not necessarily reflect any concomitant infection or other inflammatory processes, but may be due to the disease itself.

Meta AnalysisApaI, BsmI, FokI and TaqI polymorphisms in the vitamin D receptor (VDR) gene and the risk of psoriasis: a meta-analysis.
To determine whether ApaI, BsmI, FokI or TaqI polymorphisms in vitamin D receptor (VDR) gene confer susceptibility to psoriasis. Methods All related association studies published before January 2012 were retrieved and eligible ones were included in our meta-analysis. For each of the four polymorphisms, we explored the significance of the associations for the allele contrast as well as the recessive and dominant models in overall samples, Caucasians and East Asians. Heterogeneity was identified by sensitivity analysis and publication bias was examined by funnel plot and Egger's test. ⋯ This meta-analysis showed that ApaI, TaqI polymorphisms in VDR gene correlate with psoriasis in Caucasians.

Aesthetic evaluation after non-invasive treatment for superficial basal cell carcinoma.
Cosmetic results following non-invasive treatments are difficult to compare. Although qualified objective scar assessment scales are available, they are not used in dermatological studies. Usually a 4-point scale is used in dermatological scars. The reproducibility of this method has never been evaluated. Moreover, significant specific scar characteristics are lacking. The patient and observer scar assessment scale (POSAS) is a scale qualified for the assessments of surgical scars. It has proven to be as reliable as the widely used Vancouver Scar Scale, but has the advantage that it includes the patient's opinion and specifies different scar characteristics. ⋯ The use of the 4-point scale is a valid method to compare scars of non-invasive dermatological treatments. Supplementary registering vascularity and pigmentation can be useful in future studies.

Skin conditions presenting in emergency room in Korea: an eight-year retrospective analysis.
Dermatological patients do visit the emergency department (ED) while most skin problems are controllable in the outpatient clinic. However, there is paucity of data on skin conditions presenting in ED. ⋯ During the eight-year period, dermatological ED patients increased at a steeper rate than total ED patients. However, the non-urgent dermatologic ED patients have increased with respect to admission rate, death rate, length of stay and visiting-admitting discordance. Health policy makers could utilize these basic data to amend the current health delivery system to reduce unnecessary expenditure of medical resources.
