Randomized Controlled TrialEfficacy of oral naltrexone on pruritus in atopic eczema: a double-blind, placebo-controlled study.
The intent of our study was to determine the efficacy of oral naltrexone, an opioid antagonist, in the treatment of pruritus in patients with chronic eczema. ⋯ Naltrexone is more effective than placebo in the treatment of pruritus in patient with eczema. Naltrexone might be considered as an adjunct treatment in the treatment of pruritus. However, further studies in this aspect are highly fostered.

The hair follicle melanocytes in vitiligo in relation to disease duration.
Vitiligo is an acquired pigmentary disorder of skin and hair. Active melanocytes in hair follicles can be detected by DOPA and immunohistochemical staining, while amelanotic melanocytes can only be detected by the latter. None of the studies on hair melanocytes in vitiligo discussed the effect of disease duration on these melanocytes. Here, we study the presence of melanotic and amelanotic melanocytes in vitiligo hair follicles and statistically correlating their presence with the disease duration. ⋯ The melanotic melanocytes were the first target of the disease process followed by the amelanotic melanocytes. Since the disappearance of the latter was inversely correlated with the disease duration, early treatment in vitiligo is advised.

Superficial basal cell carcinoma treated with imiquimod 5% topical cream for a 4-week period: a case series.
Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is a malignant cutaneous neoplasm with a tendency to spread locally and with several clinical and histological subsets. We studied 82 patients with a clinical diagnosis of superficial BCC on different anatomical locations, to whom imiquimod 5% cream was administered on a low-frequency regime (three times a week for 4 weeks), and who were followed up 2 years after completion of treatment. Clinical clearance rate at 1 and 2 years were 89% and 85%, respectively. We conclude that imiquimod seems to be an appropriate therapeutic alternative for the treatment of superficial BCC in patients with associated comorbidities.

ReviewA critical appraisal of evidence-based guidelines for the treatment of psoriasis vulgaris: 'AGREE-ing' on a common base for European evidence-based psoriasis treatment guidelines.
To further improve the standard of care provided to psoriasis patients in Europe, the European Dermatology Forum and the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology have initiated a project to develop common European psoriasis guidelines. ⋯ The three guidelines that could be included rated high enough to be considered 'strongly recommended' and were included to serve as a basis for the new common European guidelines. During the development of the European guidelines, special attention should be paid to meet the requirements of good 'applicability'.

Population-based assessment of Mycoplasma genitalium in Vietnam--low prevalence among married women of reproductive age in a rural area.
To analyse the prevalence of Mycoplasma genitalium infection in a population-based study among married women from a demographic surveillance site in a rural geographical area of Vietnam. ⋯ The prevalence of M. genitalium among married women in Vietnam was relatively low. However, more large, well-designed and appropriately performed studies in other population groups including unmarried women and men, and in other geographical areas, rural as well as urban, are crucial in order to extract any evidence-based conclusions regarding the overall prevalence of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including M. genitalium infections, in the Vietnamese society. The present study compiled with such future studies may form the basis for a national sexual health strategy for prevention, diagnosis, and surveillance of STIs, including M. genitalium infections, in Vietnam.
