Comparative StudyBurnout and job satisfaction comparing healthcare staff of a dermatological hospital and a general hospital.
Psychological distress among healthcare professionals can have negative effects on the well-being of the professionals and also on the quality of care they provide to patients. ⋯ Among both physicians and nurses, job satisfaction was associated with a lower likelihood of burnout, independently of clinical specialty and other factors. Burnout was similar for dermatologists and other specialists. Nurses of the GH compared with those working in dermatology had a higher probability of burnout and were significantly less satisfied with the management of their units and with opportunities for personal growth.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Clinical TrialBrivudin compared with famciclovir in the treatment of herpes zoster: effects in acute disease and chronic pain in immunocompetent patients. A randomized, double-blind, multinational study.
This was a double-blind, randomized multicentre trial comparing efficacy and safety of brivudin (125 mg, once a day) and famciclovir (250 mg, three times a day), both given orally for 7 days, in the treatment of herpes zoster. ⋯ The study demonstrated equivalent efficacy of brivudin and famciclovir in the treatment of herpes zoster regarding the prevention of chronic pain and the resolution of signs and symptoms of acute herpes zoster. Compared with famciclovir, brivudin provides equivalent efficacy and safety at a more convenient once-daily dose schedule.

No association between serum eosinophil cationic protein and atopic dermatitis or allergic rhinitis in an unselected population of children.
In order to obtain background references when dealing with serum eosinophil cationic protein (s-ECP) measurements in children with allergic diseases, population-based studies are important. The objectives of our study were to explore the strength of associations between the s-ECP level and atopic dermatitis (AD), allergic rhinitis (AR) and asthma in an unselected northern Norwegian schoolchildren population. ⋯ In this unselected children population, the occurrence of AD or AR was not reflected by an increase in the s-ECP level. The s-ECP was increased in children with asthma, but was not statistically significant. Furthermore, the majority of children with high s-ECP values were not asthmatics. We conclude that the associations between s-ECP and allergic diseases are weak in an unselected population of children.

Case ReportsGiant nevus lipomatosus superficialis with multiple folliculosebaceous cystic hamartomas and dermoid cysts.
Nevus lipomatosus superficialis (NLS) is a rare benign condition characterized by papules and nodules usually in the pelvic and sacral areas, with ectopic mature adipose tissue reaching the superficial dermis. We report the case of a 47-year-old female with large NLS in the sacral region that had been present since birth and, after an asymptomatic course for most of the time, became associated with episodes of mild pain that prompted the patient to look for medical help. After a complete resection of the cerebriform plaque, measuring 23 cm in diameter, histopathological examination revealed typical NLS architecture in as yet undescribed association with multiple folliculosebaceous cystic hamartomas (FCHs) and dermoid cysts.
