A possible complication after total disc replacement (TDR) is subsidence, presumably caused by asymmetric implantation, implant undersizing or reduced bone quality. This study aims to quantify the degree of subsidence of an SB Charité TDR, and investigate whether undersizing is related to subsidence. ⋯ A reproducible method to determine undersizing was developed. Thresholds were determined related to a reduced risk of subsidence.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study
Five-year follow-up of total disc replacement compared to fusion: a randomized controlled trial.
To evaluate long-term clinical results of lumbar total disc replacement (TDR) compared with posterior lumbar fusion. ⋯ Global assessment of low back pain differed between the two surgical groups at all follow-up occasions. Significant differences between groups concerning back pain, pain improvement, and ODI were present at 1 year and disappeared at 2 years, but reappeared at the 5-year follow-up.

Comparative Study Clinical Trial
Documentation of outcomes for sacroiliac joint fusion: does prior spinal fusion influence the outcome?
The purpose of this prospective case series (level II) was to determine the clinical outcomes of anterior SIJ fusion, comparing the outcomes of patients who had prior spinal fusions at any level compared to patients who have not. ⋯ Patients who have not undergone prior spinal fusion surgery, regardless of age, gender, and BMI have better outcomes following anterior SIJ fusion.
