The aim of the present study was to assess the degree of apical vertebral rotation values in Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS) that were obtained on CT scans, and to analyze the influence of patient position (supine versus prone) on the degree of rotation. ⋯ The assessment of the apical vertebra rotation is crucial in AIS. Even though the vertebral rotation in the supine position was found to be significantly lesser than that in the prone position, CT imaging in a prone position could not be considered clinically more relevant than the CT images in a supine position as there was less than 3° difference.

A case series of seven consecutive patients with L5-S1 spondyloptosis (SPP) and Meyerding IV spondylolisthesis (HGSPL) treated consecutively by a new surgical technique with partial reduction and fixation after spinal shortening. ⋯ This novel and efficient one-stage shortening technique offers the possibility to manage lumbosacral kyphosis and spinal local malalignment in L5-S1 SPP.

The Cobb angle measurement is well established for the measurement of coronal deformity aspect of scoliotic curves. The effect of positional differences in relation to the apex side of the scoliosis is not yet fully quantified. While theoretically plausible that positioning error with rotation toward the apex of the scoliosis would decrease the Cobb angle, the relations are not investigated yet and were object of this study. ⋯ The influence of rotational misplacement of the patient at the time of image acquisition on Cobb angle measurements is negligible for a rotational misplacement of ±20° of rotation for a idiopathic right-sided thoracic scoliosis of 47°. Over 20° of rotational misplacement of the patient toward the apex of the scoliosis falsely decreases the Cobb angle.

To introduce a new clinical neck tilt grading and to investigate clinically and radiologically whether neck tilt and shoulder imbalance is the same phenomenon in AIS patients. ⋯ In conclusion, neck tilt is distinct from shoulder imbalance. Clinical neck tilt has poor correlation with clinical shoulder imbalance. Clinical neck tilt grading correlated with cervical axis and T1 tilt whereas clinical shoulder grading correlated with CHD, RSH CRID and CA.
