The purpose of this review was to analyze the biomechanical basis of incomplete burst fractures of the thoracolumbar spine, summarize the available treatment options with evidence from the literature, and to propose a method to differentiate fracture severity. ⋯ Incomplete burst fractures can differ tremendously regarding the degree of instability they confer to the thoracolumbar spine. Based on a detailed review of the literature, it is clear that good results can be obtained with both non-operative and operative strategies to treat these injuries. In the authors' opinion, the intervertebral disc plays a key role in determining the long-term clinical and radiological outcome. Thus, an incorporation of the intervertebral disc pathology into the existing classification systems would be a valuable prognostic factor.

(1) To analyze peculiarities of presentation and prognosis of tubercular spondylodiscitis (TBS) in elderly. (2) To assess if associated co-morbidities and risks lead to poorer outcome (3) To observe if different management strategy needs to be implemented in them. ⋯ TBS in elderly differed from that in younger by having a higher co-morbidities, later presentation, higher neuro-deficit, greater mortality and increased complications. Nevertheless, in those who survived, clinico-radiological outcomes of both conservative and surgical treatments were good.

Randomized Controlled Trial
Comparison of the 18-month outcome after the treatment of osteoporotic insufficiency fractures by means of balloon sacroplasty (BSP) and radiofrequency sacroplasty (RFS) in comparison: a prospective randomised study.
The objective of this prospective, randomised study was to examine the feasibility and clinical outcome of balloon sacroplasty and radiofrequency sacroplasty. ⋯ BSP and RFS are interventional, minimally invasive procedures that enable reliable cement augmentation and achieve equally good clinical outcomes in the medium term.

To assess the impact of problem and scripting-based learning (PSBL) on spine surgical trainees' learning outcomes. ⋯ The PSBL method can activate spine residents' prior knowledge and building on existing cognitive frameworks, which is an important tool for improving pre-operative preparedness. We believe that PSBL is an important first step in training spine residents to become confident and safe spine surgeons.
