To investigate the changes of lumbar neural foramina size during dynamic motion using positional MRI. ⋯ Lumbar foraminal dimensions increased in flexion compared to neutral and extension positions. Lumbar angular motion contributed to the changes of foraminal height and area at most of the segments, while it affected foraminal width only at L3-4 and L4-5. This information can be useful in the understanding of patient symptoms and the correlation with the imaging studies with dynamic foraminal stenosis. Furthermore, data from our study may help with patient positioning for foraminal injections or endoscopic surgery.

Transcranial magnetic stimulation in the semi-quantitative, pre-operative assessment of patients undergoing spinal deformity surgery.
To compare measurements of motor evoked potential latency stimulated either magnetically (mMEP) or electrically (eMEP) and central motor conduction time (CMCT) made pre-operatively in conscious patients using transcranial and intra-operatively using electrical cortical stimulation before and after successful instrumentation for the treatment of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis. ⋯ The congruency of mMEP and eMEP and of mCMCT and eCMCT suggests that these measurements may be used comparatively and semi-quantitatively for the comparison of pre-, intra-, and post-operative spinal cord function in spinal deformity surgery.

To evaluate the association in ASD patients between spinopelvic sagittal parameters and health-related quality of life (HRQL), adjusted for demographic and surgical variables. ⋯ Pre-operatively, the impact of sagittal parameters on HRQL was not as strong as reported in the previous studies that used univariate analysis. Not only sagittal parameters, but also the pre-operative patient's general condition should be carefully reviewed when considering indication for ASD surgery. In contrast, although this is a short-term follow-up study, PostOp HRQL was significantly associated with sagittal parameters. When ASD surgery has been indicated, restoration of spinal sagittal alignment is certainly important for PostOp HRQL.
