Effect of corrective long spinal fusion to the ilium on physical function in patients with adult spinal deformity.
To identify the effects of corrective long spinal fusion to the ilium on physical function in patients with adult spinal deformity (ASD). ⋯ Corrective long spinal fusion contributed to improving back pain at discharge and gait ability at 12 months in patients with ASD.

To evaluate the association in ASD patients between spinopelvic sagittal parameters and health-related quality of life (HRQL), adjusted for demographic and surgical variables. ⋯ Pre-operatively, the impact of sagittal parameters on HRQL was not as strong as reported in the previous studies that used univariate analysis. Not only sagittal parameters, but also the pre-operative patient's general condition should be carefully reviewed when considering indication for ASD surgery. In contrast, although this is a short-term follow-up study, PostOp HRQL was significantly associated with sagittal parameters. When ASD surgery has been indicated, restoration of spinal sagittal alignment is certainly important for PostOp HRQL.

S2 alar-iliac (S2AI) screws are generally placed using an open approach, but have recently been shown to be implantable using a minimally invasive approach. Nevertheless, optimal screw positioning, even when supported by fluoroscopic guidance, is challenging in the complex anatomy of the sacral-pelvic area. This work presents our novel technique of S2AI sacropelvic fixation procedures performed with robotic guidance. ⋯ Robotic-guidance with a Jamshidi needle technique was a safe and effective means for implanting S2AI screws in a minimally invasive approach.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the spine is a sensitive investigation, which not only provides detailed images of the spinal column but also adjacent spinal regions and para-vertebral organ systems. Such incidental findings (IF) can be asymptomatic but significant. The efficacy of whole spine T2 sagittal screening in providing additional information has been demonstrated in several spinal diseases but its routine use in patients with spinal degenerative diseases has not been studied. ⋯ Routine T2 whole spine screening MRI identified 15.8% IF of the spinal and extra-spinal regions. 65 patients (4.3%) required either spine surgical intervention or other specialist care. Considering the potential advantages in identifying significant IF and the minimal extra time spent to perform whole spine screening, its application can be considered to be incorporated in routine imaging of spinal degenerative diseases.
