Retrospective cohort study. ⋯ Pedicle screw constructs permit effective posterior-only correction of TK/TLK that is maintained at the 5-year follow-up time point. Non-specific chronic low back pain (NSCLBP) patients present with reduced back extensor muscle endurance which could be explained by the higher fatigability of their lumbar muscles. However, studies investigating lumbar muscle fatigability have shown contradictory findings. Furthermore, none investigated potential asymmetry in lumbar muscle fatigability, despite neuromuscular asymmetry being reported as a risk factor for NSCLBP. The present study's primary purpose was to determine whether NSCLBP patients presented with higher lumbar muscle fatigability and fatigability asymmetry than asymptomatic participants. ⋯ The present study showed that NSCLBP patients did not present higher fatigability or higher fatigability asymmetry in lumbar muscles than asymptomatic participants. The heterogeneity of the NSCLBP population, due to the absence of any specific etiology, may explain these findings. These slides can be retrieved under Electronic Supplementary Material.

Exercise therapy such as motor control training (MCT) has been shown to reduce pain and disability in people with low back pain (LBP). It is unknown which patients are most likely to benefit. This longitudinal cohort study aimed to: (1) retrospectively examine records from a large cohort of patients who received MCT treatment, (2) identify potentially important predictors of response to MCT and (3) test the predictors on an independent (split) sample derived from the original cohort of patients, using one group to identify the predictors and the other to test them. ⋯ This study provides a first step towards assisting clinicians to select patients most likely to respond to MCT. Chronic low back pain (cLBP) affects a quarter of a population during its lifetime. The most severe cases include patients not responding to interventions such as 5-week-long in-hospital multi-disciplinary protocols. This document reports on a pilot study offering an alpha-phase synchronization (APS) brain rehabilitation intervention to a population of n = 16 multi-resistant cLBP patients. ⋯ This first experiment highlights the role of the APC neuromarker in relation to the nucleus accumbens activity and its role on nociception and the chronicity of pain. This study suggests APC rehabilitation could be used clinically for the most severe cases of cLBP. Its excellent safety profile and availability as a home-use intervention makes it a potentially disruptive tool in the context of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and opioid abuses. To study the interaction between Modic changes (MC) and inflammation by macrophages in the disc, in relation to clinical symptoms before and after discectomy for lumbar disc herniation. ⋯ An interaction effect of MC and disc inflammation by macrophages is present. Only in patients with MC, those with considerable inflammation recover less satisfactory during follow-up after surgery. These slides can be retrieved under Electronic Supplementary Material.
