A comparative study of diffusion kurtosis imaging and T2* mapping in quantitative detection of lumbar intervertebral disk degeneration.
To assess the feasibility of diffusion kurtosis imaging (DKI) for diagnosing lumbar intervertebral disk degeneration (IDD) and to compare the potential of DKI and T2* mapping in the diagnosis of early IDD. ⋯ DKI can be used to assess human lumbar IDD. Quasi-automatic early detection of progressive idiopathic scoliosis from biplanar radiography: a preliminary validation.
To validate the predictive power and reliability of a novel quasi-automatic method to calculate the severity index of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS). ⋯ The fast and semiautomatic method for 3D reconstruction developed in this work allowed for a fast and reliable calculation of the severity index. The method is fast and user friendly. Once extensively validated, this severity index could allow very early initiation of conservative treatment for progressive patients, thus increasing treatment efficacy and therefore reducing the need for corrective surgery. Residence could influence the surgical outcome after corrective surgery in adult spinal deformity: comparison study between urban and rural area in Korea.
Numerous factors affect the surgical outcomes in patients with adult spinal deformity (ASD). However, no study has examined the relationship between residence and physical factors and surgical outcomes in patients with ASD. Here, we analysed the impact of residence and physical factors on the post-operative outcomes of patients with ASD residing in urban (U) and rural (R) environments. ⋯ Patient residence influenced PJK in patients with ASD. Mass reduction in the trunk extensor muscle is an important and existing risk factor for PJK. Surgeons should be aware of this information for preoperative counselling, informed consent, and post-operative education of patients with ASD. Lumbo-pelvic sagittal alignment is affected by pelvic incidence (PI), and the PI represents the compensatory capacity of lumbo-pelvic sagittal alignment. The purpose of this study was to analyze changes in lumbo-pelvic sagittal alignment between the standing and sitting positions and to analyze its association with PI. ⋯ Change in lumbo-pelvic parameters between the sitting and standing positions correlated with PI.
