Review a series of 22 patients below the age of 16 affected by primary bone tumors of the spine who underwent en bloc resection, and describe the clinical presentation, tumor characteristics, results and complications associated with the surgical treatment, underlining the specific issues related to a younger age. ⋯ Young people with primary malignant or locally aggressive bone tumors of the spine should be treated in specialized centers, and wide surgery should be performed. The most frequent problems are related to reconstruction in a growing spine and subsequent hardware failure that make later surgeries necessary. These slides can be retrieved under Electronic Supplementary Material.

To evaluate whether a new PEEK vertebral body replacement can maintain the sagittal alignment as an anterior column reconstruction device in thoracic and lumbar spinal defects due to trauma or tumor. ⋯ The new PEEK expandable vertebral body replacement is effective and safe in thoracic and lumbar anterior column reconstruction in tumor and trauma diseases.

To explore the correlations between postoperative hip pain and spino-pelvic/hip parameters in adult scoliosis patients after long-segment spinal fusion. ⋯ Postoperative hip pain among adult scoliosis patients after long-segment spinal fusion is significantly associated with the variation in acetabular coverage and CE angle, and the change in acetabular coverage is correlated with that in LL for those who develop hip pain after the surgery. These slides can be retrieved under Electronic Supplementary Material.

Intradural extramedullary spinal metastasis of renal cell carcinoma: illustrative case report and comprehensive review of the literature.
Literature review. ⋯ The 22-year interval from diagnosis of primary RCC to intradural metastasis is the longest latency reported in the literature. Intramedullary metastases tend to have a younger age at diagnosis and shorter interval from diagnosis of primary RCC compared to extramedullary lesions.

To determine the cyclin-dependent kinase 12 (CDK12) expression in chordoma patient tissues and cell lines, its correlation with oncologic outcomes, and its function in chordoma cell proliferation. ⋯ High expression of CDK12 is an independent predictor of poor prognosis in chordoma. Inhibition of CDK12 significantly decreased chordoma cell proliferation and induced apoptosis. Our results support CDK12 as a novel prognostic biomarker and therapeutic target in chordoma.
