Spinal deformities due to adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) result in impairment in the back surface topography. Sophisticated interventions are needed that address different aspects of deformity. The purpose of our study is to test the reliability of hand-held 3D scanners on the assessment of AIS. ⋯ Diagnostic: individual cross-sectional studies with consistently applied reference standard and blinding.

In skeletally immature patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS), vertebral body tethering (VBT) as a fusionless minimally invasive treatment option has been shown to correct the deformity by growth modulation. This prospective cohort study aimed to present the minimum 2 years' results of double-sided VBT applied to double curves of 13 skeletally immature patients with AIS. ⋯ Double-sided VBT was detected to provide 80% of thoracic (48.2° to 9.7°) and 82% of thoracolumbar-lumbar curve correction (45.3° to 8.2°) as a result of average two years. As being a growth modulating treatment option, double-sided VBT as applied under strict inclusion criteria was shown to be safe and effective for the correction of double curves in skeletally immature patients with AIS, by yielding a gradual, growth-assisted correction of both curves together with the preservation of coronal-sagittal balance without any major complications.

To validate the predictability of S-line in Lenke 5C patients. ⋯ Modified S-line + is a validated risk factor that predisposed to post-operative coronal decompensation in Lenke 5C AIS patients. Selecting UIV at one level caudal to UEV could be a possible solution if the modified S-line was positive.

Roentgen stereophotogrammetric analysis is a technique to make accurate assessments of the relative position and orientation of bone structures and implants in vivo. While the precision and accuracy of stereophotogrammetry for hip and knee arthroplasty is well documented, there is insufficient knowledge of the technique's precision and, especially accuracy when applied to rotational movements in the spinal region. ⋯ In summary, the results suggest stereophotogrammetry to be a highly precise method to analyze motion of the lumbar spine. Since precision and accuracy are better than 0.2° for both focal spot values, the choice between these is of minor clinical relevance.
