Low back pain (LPB) is mostly left untreated (LBPuntreated) and may increase the injury risk due to associated behavioral-health difficulties (BHDs) among adolescents. This study assessed the association between LBPuntreated (vs. treated LBP (LBPtreated)) and injuries and the mediating role of BHDs among younger adolescents (10-16 years). ⋯ LBPuntreated is common and associated with injuries partly due to BHDs (which may alter physical/mental capabilities, risk perception/awareness, and vigilance) among younger adolescents. Our results may inform healthcare providers that they can detect/treat LBP and BHDs to prevent their aggravation and injuries.

This study aims to analyze the effect of pro-inflammatory cytokine-stimulated human annulus fibrosus cells (hAFCs) on the sensitization of dorsal root ganglion (DRG) cells. We further hypothesized that celecoxib (cxb) could inhibit hAFCs-induced DRG sensitization. ⋯ Cxb can inhibit PGE-2 production in hAFCs in an IL-1β-induced pro-inflammatory in vitro environment. The cxb applied to the hAFCs also reduces the sensitization of DRG nociceptors that are stimulated by the hAFCs CM.

Causal mechanisms underlying systemic inflammation in spinal & widespread pain remain an intractable experimental challenge. Here we examined whether: (i) associations between blood C-reactive protein (CRP) and chronic back, neck/shoulder & widespread pain can be explained by shared underlying genetic variants; and (ii) higher CRP levels causally contribute to these conditions. ⋯ This genetic evidence for higher CRP levels in chronic spinal (back, neck/shoulder) & widespread pain warrants further large-scale multimodal & prospective longitudinal studies to accelerate the identification of novel translational targets and more effective therapeutic strategies.

There is still no consensus on the optimum pedicle screw density required for the desired thoracic kyphosis restoration in adolescent idiopathic surgery (AIS). The aim of this study to evaluate the effect of pedicle screw density on thoracic kyphosis restoration in AIS surgery. ⋯ It was considered that better thoracic kyphosis restoration could be achieved with the less lordotic effect of IPSC in Lenke type 1 curves. Although the current situation had a significant impact on radiological outcomes, its effect on SRS-22 scores was limited.

To analyze the differential transcriptome expression in hypertrophic ligaments flavum (HLF) compared to normal ligaments. ⋯ Our results suggest that abnormal processes in hypertrophied LF are mediated by the interaction of the Rho GTPase, RTK, and PI3K pathways, which have not been previously described in the HLF, but for which there are currently therapeutic proposals. More studies are required to confirm the therapeutic potential of the pathways and mediators described in our results.
