Patient reported outcome measures (PROMs) are important tools to assess patient function, pain, disability, and quality of life. We aim to study the efficiency and validity of digital PROMs collection using a smartphone app compared to traditional paper PROMs. ⋯ The SpineHealthie app effectively and accurately collects PROMs digitally, showing strong concordance with traditional paper PROMs. We conclude that digital PROMs constitute a promising strategy for monitoring patients after spine surgery over time.

To describe the first case of a thoracic perineural cyst successfully treated using a direct thoracic transforaminal endoscopic approach. ⋯ This case report presents the first safe and successful report of an all endoscopic transforaminal decompression and resection of a perineural cyst in the thoracic spine.

Operations on thoracic herniated discs are comparatively rare and often demanding. An individual approach and mastery of different surgical techniques and surgical approaches are necessary. The main factors for the chosen surgical technique and approach are the anatomical localization, consistency of the pathology, the general condition of the patient and the experience of the surgeon. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the technical possibilities and outcomes of the full-endoscopic technique with interlaminar, extraforaminal and transthoracic retropleural approaches in patients with symptomatic herniated discs with anterior neural compression. ⋯ The full-endoscopic technique with interlaminar, extraforaminal or transthoracic retropleural approach is a sufficient and minimally invasive method. All three full-endoscopic approaches of the thoracic spine are required to enable sufficient decompression of the anterior pathologies examined here.

Comparison of full-endoscopic and tubular-based microscopic decompression in patients with lumbar spinal stenosis: a randomized controlled trial.
We aimed to demonstrate non-inferiority in terms of functional outcomes in patients with lumbar spinal stenosis who underwent full-endoscopic decompression compared with tubular-based microscopic decompression. ⋯ This study suggests that full-endoscopic decompression is an alternative treatment for patients with lumbar spinal stenosis because it provides non-inferior clinical efficacy and safety compared with tubular-based microscopic surgery. In addition, it offers advantages in terms of less invasive surgery. Trial registration number (TRN): TCTR20191217001.

To better understand how anesthesia type impacts patient selection and recovery in TELD, we conducted a multicenter prospective study which evaluates the differences in perioperative characteristics and outcomes between patients who underwent TELD with either general anesthesia (GA) or conscious sedation (CS). ⋯ In our multicenter prospective analysis of 52 patients undergoing TELD, we found that patients receiving CS were significantly older and had significantly lower BMI compared to patients under GA. On subgroup analysis, no statistically significant differences were found in the improvement of PROMs between patients in the CS and GA group.
