Case Reports
A novel mutation in COL2A1 leading to spondyloepiphyseal dysplasia congenita in a three-generation family.
To investigate the genotype of COL2A1 in a three-generation spondyloepiphyseal dysplasia congenita (SEDC) family. ⋯ This is the first familial report of G546S mutation in the COL2A1 gene that results in SEDC. Although great achievements have been made in the recognition of the mutation spectrum, more intensive studies are warranted to further identify correlations between genotype and phenotype.

Sub-axial cervical spine(C spine) distraction flexion injuries, known as cervical sprains, have been divided into either "benign" or "severe" sprains depending on the integrity of the posterior longitudinal ligament (PLL) of the spinal column. It is a very uncommon injury and rarely reported in the literature. Most of the reports in the literature discuss this injury in the adult age group and so the adolescent age group was also considered to follow the same model of progression of mechanical instability depending on the degree and extent of structures injured, including the PLL as a cutoff factor between a "stable" and an "unstable" injury. ⋯ We report three cases of adolescents with severe cervical sprains at the C2-C3 level and argue the integrity of PLL as a determinant factor in the sagittal stability of the C spine in this age group.

Review Meta Analysis
Minimally invasive surgery for lumbar disc herniation: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Assessing the benefits of surgical treatments for sciatica is critical for clinical and policy decision-making. To compare minimally invasive (MI) and conventional microdiscectomy (MD) for patients with sciatica due to lumbar disc herniation. ⋯ There is moderate to low quality evidence of no differences in clinical outcomes between MI surgery and conventional microdiscectomy for patients with sciatica due to lumbar disc herniation. Studies comparing transforaminal MI with conventional surgery with sufficient sample size and methodological robustness are lacking.

Review Meta Analysis
Surgery in lumbar degenerative spondylolisthesis: indications, outcomes and complications. A systematic review.
This systematic review summarises the literature on patient selection, decision-making, effectiveness and outcomes in the surgical treatment of lumbar degenerative spondylolisthesis (LDS). ⋯ Despite there being many articles describing and/or comparing different surgical options for LDS, there was insufficient evidence to draw conclusions concerning clear indications for specific types of surgical treatment, predictors of outcome or complication rates. There remains a need to establish a decision-making tool to facilitate daily clinical practice and to assure appropriate treatment for patients with LDS.

Hepatic myelopathy with spastic paraparesis: report of two cases and review of the literature.
The present report illustrates two men aged for 59 and 43 years, respectively, who presented with slowly progressive spastic paraparesis. ⋯ Hepatic myelopathy remains a default diagnosis assigned only after the exclusion of other causes of spastic paraparesis and partial transverse myelopathy. An accurate history, along with appropriate imaging and laboratory findings, is crucial.
