Isolated atypical spinal tuberculosis mistaken for neoplasia: case report and literature review.
We report a case of isolated intra-spinal tuberculosis in a 45 year-old woman. The uncommon findings in MRI were more suggestive of tumor lesion. ⋯ This case indicated the complexity of differentiating atypical spinal tuberculosis from disease which could cause spinal cord and cauda equina compression.

Spinal stenosis at the C2-3 segment is a rare occurrence, and when it occurs myelopathy infrequently results. Furthermore, only a handful of cases involving congenital abnormalities of the posterior arch of the axis have been described resulting in cervical myelopathy many of which described simultaneous congenital abnormalities at adjacent levels and none of which identified ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament (OPLL) at the same level. We report a case of a previously undescribed combination of abnormalities at the C2-3 segment resulting in clinical myelopathy. ⋯ Deficiencies in the posterior arch of the axis are rare and have not previously been reported in conjunction with OPLL. Advanced imaging is helpful to define the abnormality and site of compression. In the setting of a progressive neurological dysfunction, surgical decompression and stabilization is a reasonable intervention and can be associated with neurological and symptomatic improvement.

Bone union rate with autologous iliac bone versus local bone graft in posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF): a multicenter study.
The purpose of this study is to compare bone union rate between autologous iliac bone and local bone graft in patients treated by posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF) using carbon cage for single level interbody fusion. ⋯ Almost the same results in fusion were obtained from both the local bone group and the autologous iliac bone group. Fusion progression was almost the same. Complications at donor sites were seen in 19% of the cases. From the above results, it was concluded that local bone graft is as beneficial as autologous iliac bone graft for PLIF at a single level.
