Predict nonhome discharge (NHD) following elective anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) using an explainable machine learning model. ⋯ We validated an explainable machine learning model for the prediction of NHD using common preoperative variables. Adding transparency is a key step towards clinical application because it demonstrates that our model's "thinking" aligns with clinical reasoning. Interactive analysis demonstrated that those of age over 65, female sex, higher ASA score, and greater fusion levels were more predisposed to NHD. Age and ASA score were similar in their predictive ability. Machine learning may be used to predict NHD, and can assist surgeons with patient counseling or early discharge planning.

Low back pain (LPB) is mostly left untreated (LBPuntreated) and may increase the injury risk due to associated behavioral-health difficulties (BHDs) among adolescents. This study assessed the association between LBPuntreated (vs. treated LBP (LBPtreated)) and injuries and the mediating role of BHDs among younger adolescents (10-16 years). ⋯ LBPuntreated is common and associated with injuries partly due to BHDs (which may alter physical/mental capabilities, risk perception/awareness, and vigilance) among younger adolescents. Our results may inform healthcare providers that they can detect/treat LBP and BHDs to prevent their aggravation and injuries.

The objective of this study was to discuss our experience performing LLIF in the prone position and report our complications. ⋯ Our single-surgeon experience demonstrates the initial learning curve when adopting pLLIF. Thereafter, we experienced reproducibility in our technique and large improvements in our operative times, and complication profile. We experienced no technical complications after the 30th case. Further studies will include long-term clinical and radiographic outcomes to understand the complete utility of this approach.

The primary aim was to measure the safe corridor (SC), surgical incision anterior margin (AM), and posterior margin (PM) for OLIF bilaterally from L1 to L5. The secondary aim was to determine the feasibility of approach via the SC. The tertiary aim was to analyze the influence of demographic and anthropometric factors on OLIF parameters. ⋯ This study is the first to provide guidelines on the appropriate location of the incision line during OLIF based on SC from L1 to L5. SC measurements do not vary by sex. OLIF is more feasible via a left-sided approach.

This study examines the test-retest reliability, the minimal clinically important difference (MCID), and its correlation with the Rolland Morris Disability Questionnaire (RMDQ) of the Dubousset Functional Test (DFT) in evaluating the functional capacity and dynamic balance of patients with chronic non-specific low back pain (cnsLBP). ⋯ The DFT is reliable in evaluating patients' functional capacity and dynamic balance with cnsLBP without causing discomfort. It is simple, quick, and simultaneously assesses multiple areas contributing to spinal alignment, muscle integrity, and balance.
