Multicenter Study Observational StudyClinical, humanistic, and economic burden of osteoarthritis among noninstitutionalized adults in the United States.
To estimate the burden of osteoarthritis (OA) among noninstitutionalized adults (≥18 years of age) in the US. ⋯ OA affects approximately 10% of noninstitutionalized adults in the US, resulting in substantial clinical, humanistic, and economic burdens.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyTropomyosin-related kinase A (TrkA) inhibition for the treatment of painful knee osteoarthritis: results from a randomized controlled phase 2a trial.
To investigate the TrkA inhibitor, ASP7962, for treatment of painful knee osteoarthritis. ⋯ Four-week treatment with ASP7962 (100 mg BID) did not improve pain or physical function in individuals with painful knee osteoarthritis. ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT02611466; EudraCT Number, 2014-004996-22.

Randomized Controlled TrialEfficacy and safety of intra-articular injection of tropomyosin receptor kinase A inhibitor in painful knee osteoarthritis: a randomized, double-blind and placebo-controlled study.
This trial evaluated the efficacy and safety of GZ389988A, a tropomyosin receptor kinase A (TrkA) inhibitor, in subjects with painful knee osteoarthritis (OA). ⋯ IA injection of TrkA inhibitor GZ389988A in knee OA subjects reduced pain with a numerically functional gain and an acceptable safety profile. (ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT02845271).

Protective effects of extracorporeal shockwave on rat chondrocytes and temporomandibular joint osteoarthritis; preclinical evaluation with in vivo99mTc-HDP SPECT and ex vivo micro-CT.
Extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) has been shown to have chondroprotective effects on arthritic diseases. We investigated the effects of ESWT on temporomandibular joint osteoarthritis (TMJOA) using rat chondrocytes and TMJOA rat models. ⋯ ESWT was associated with a protective effect on cartilage and subchondral bone structures of TMJOA by reducing inflammation, cartilage degradation, and chondrocyte apoptosis.

Meta AnalysisRisk factors for falls in patients with total hip arthroplasty and total knee arthroplasty: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Falls are common after total hip arthroplasty (THA) and total knee arthroplasty (TKA). While previous studies have investigated various risk factors for falls in patients following THA and TKA, no systematic reviews have summarized these risk factors. Therefore, the current systematic review aimed to summarize evidence regarding risk factors for falls in patients after THA and/or TKA. ⋯ This review summarized both non-modifiable and modifiable risk factors for post-THA/TKA falls. Our findings highlight the importance of developing strategies to lower the falls risk among patients following THA/TKA.
