Validity of self-report measures of pain and disability for persons who have undergone arthroplasty for osteoarthritis of the carpometacarpal joint of the hand.
To establish the validity of three self-report scales used to measure function following arthroplasty for osteoarthritis (OA) of the carpometacarpal joint. ⋯ The AUSCAN, PRWHE, and DASH are valid assessments of pain and/or disability of hand OA, and provide information distinct from impairment measures.

Randomized Controlled TrialThree-month efficacy and safety of acetaminophen extended-release for osteoarthritis pain of the hip or knee: a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study.
To examine the efficacy and safety of two doses of long-acting acetaminophen in patients with osteoarthritis (OA) of the hip or knee. ⋯ Acetaminophen ER 3900 mg/d administered for up to 12 weeks was effective in treating moderate to moderately severe chronic OA pain of the hip or knee and was generally well tolerated.

Multicenter Study Clinical TrialResponsiveness and clinically important differences for the WOMAC and SF-36 after total knee replacement.
To study responsiveness and establish the minimal clinically important differences (MCIDs) and minimal detectable change (MDC) in patients undergoing total knee replacement (TKR) using the Short Form 36 (SF-36) and Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC). ⋯ The MCID for TKR is around 15 on WOMAC, while with the SF-36 of at least 10 points. These values should not be considered as absolute thresholds.

Cross-cultural adaptation and validation of Singapore English and Chinese versions of the Lequesne Algofunctional Index of knee in Asians with knee osteoarthritis in Singapore.
To cross-culturally adapt and validate Singapore English and Chinese versions of the Lequesne Algofunctional Index of knee in patients with knee osteoarthritis (OA) in Singapore. ⋯ Both versions of the Lequesne index demonstrated acceptable reliability and validity among multiethnic Asian patients with knee OA, which suggests that it could be used as a global index in the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) measurements in Singapore and possibly other Asian countries.

Validation of the Dutch version of the Hip disability and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score.
The Hip disability and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (HOOS) was constructed in Sweden; this questionnaire has proved to be valid for persons with hip disability with or without hip osteoarthritis (OA) and with high demands of physical function. ⋯ The Dutch HOOS questionnaire has a good internal consistency and reliability. Moreover, the construct validity is good and no floor and ceiling effects were found. The HOOS is a good instrument for patients with different stadia of hip OA.
