Disparities in outcomes are experienced between people who live in rural and remote areas and those who live in larger cities. This paper explores the ability to deliver specialist cancer care through the use of telehealth models. ⋯ New models of telehealth are another avenue to help further decrease the disparity of access and survival outcomes between rural and urban patients. Implementation of these models requires health system wide approach for development key performance indicators and allocation of resources.

ReviewRapid review of applications of e-health and remote monitoring for rural residents.

There is a paucity of research that identifies successful implementation of e-health and remote monitoring in rural communities. ⋯ E-health has the potential to increase access to services in rural and remote communities. The evidence shows that it is as safe, effective and reliable as most conventional methods for interacting with patients while enabling people to stay within their own communities.

Peritoneal dialysis outcomes of Indigenous Australian patients of remote Kimberley origin.
To compare clinical outcomes and mortality rates between Kimberley Indigenous, other Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australian patients on peritoneal dialysis (PD). ⋯ PD can bring patients closer to home; however, it is relatively short term and potentially hazardous. PD remains an important therapy for suitable remote patients to get closer to home, providing they are fully informed of the options. The current expansion of safer Kimberley haemodialysis options needs to continue.
