Barriers to accessing ambulance services in rural Victoria for acute asthma: patients' and medical professionals' perspectives.
To study the attitudes and perceptions of rural asthma patients and medical health professionals towards accessing ambulance services for acute asthma. ⋯ The misperceptions expressed are of particular concern in a rural population where distance can cause prolonged response times to treatment, and patients who are acutely ill need to contact emergency services promptly and appropriately to improve patient health outcomes.

Process for improving the integration of care across the primary and acute care settings in rural South Australia: asthma as a case study.
To develop a process for improving the integration of care across the rural acute and primary care settings using asthma as a case study. ⋯ Managing chronic disease in a community requires the integration of care across the primary and acute care setting. To be successful, GP-hospital integration initiatives require stakeholder involvement, locally developed solutions, engagement of GPs, communication and a well-developed plan. This project provides a process for achieving this.

To evaluate the experiences of a group of rural and remote nurses in providing palliative care and to discuss the implications of this evaluation for the development and implementation of professional support strategies. ⋯ This evaluation demonstrated congruence between the challenges faced by this group of nurses and those reported in the literature. These nurses identified the importance of peer networking as an integral part of their work, which enhanced their potential as rural and remote palliative care providers.
