This study investigated whether Nigerian nurses' emotional exhaustion and active learning were predicted by job demands, control and social support. ⋯ Job (re)design interventions can enhance nurses' well-being and learning by guarding nurses' job demands, and stimulating job control and supervisor support.

The aim of the study was to explore the prevalence of burnout and job satisfaction among Saudi national critical care nurses. ⋯ These results provide clear evidence of the need for nurse managers and policy makers to devise strategies to help nurses better cope with a stressful work environment, thereby also improving job satisfaction among Saudi national critical care nurses.

The present study aimed to deepen the understanding of the relationships among job demands, control, social support, burnout and engagement in nurses. ⋯ The prevailing paradigm in combating burnout in nursing can be changed and could be based on the enhancement of nurses' strengths through increasing engagement.

To examine the relationship between nurse staffing and patient length of stay in an acute-care hospital over a 1-year period. ⋯ A rational response to the variations in patient care needs and intensity in the complex care environment is flexible nurse staffing. Increasing nursing hours per patient day to achieve shorter length of stays is not the only solution, well-functioning care processes are also essential.
