To examine how front-line registered nurses' perception of their work environment associates with and predicts nurse outcomes in terms of job satisfaction and turnover intention. ⋯ Managerial effort should focus on improving nurses' work conditions through detailed resource planning, effective management and removal of work constraints that affect nursing practice.

The analysis of nursing errors in clinical management highlighted that clinical handover plays a pivotal role in patient safety. Changes to handover including conducting handover at the bedside and the use of written handover summary sheets were subsequently implemented. ⋯ Flexible handover methods are implicit within clinical setting issues especially in consideration to nursing teamwork. Good communication processes continue to be fundamental for successful handover processes.

To implement the sterile cockpit principle to decrease interruptions and distractions during high volume medication administration and reduce the number of medication errors. ⋯ Applying the sterile cockpit principle to inpatient medical units is a feasible approach to reduce the number of distractions during the administration of medication, thus, reducing the likelihood of medication error. 'Do Not Disturb' signs and vests are inexpensive, simple interventions that can be used as reminders to decrease distractions.

A quality improvement initiative of nursing/chaplain collaboration on the early identification and referral of oncology patients at risk of spiritual distress. ⋯ The use of a brief spiritual screening protocol can improve nursing referrals to chaplains. The better utilization of chaplains that this enables can improve patient trust and satisfaction with their overall care and potentially reduce the harmful effects of spiritual distress.

To evaluate the benefits of self-management interventions on the quality of life of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. ⋯ Nursing management in health services is involved in caring for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and is responsible for liaising with other members of the health-care team. We recommend that nursing management be engaged in health-care services to develop and implement self-management interventions for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease patients to improve their quality of life.
