To determine the impact of the Caledonian Development Model, designed to promote evidence-based practice. ⋯ Time and budgetary constraints necessitate smart, value for money approaches to developing evidence-based practice and improved care standards. This work demonstrates an effective model that strikes a balance between individual and group learning, virtual and real-time activities, coupled with resource pooling across organizations and sectors.

Despite the expanding deployment of support workers in mental health services, little evidence exists on what managers and professional practitioners should expect of such staff in community settings. ⋯ Promoting diversity of skills in the mental health workforce is a progressive move in tuning services to the heterogenous needs of clients in the community. However, introducing unqualified workers into multi-disciplinary teams necessitates clear guidance to prevent their activity being confined within existing professional models. Support workers offer much potential in innovative service delivery.

This study describes the views of nurse managers and staff members on human resource development (HRD) in health care. Our interest here is whether there are any differences between these two groups. ⋯ These findings underline the importance of human resource development and its practices in health care. Nurse managers need to implement strategically steered HRD in order to maintain high quality of care in the future.
