Observational StudyConvergent validity of the Cognitive Performance Scale of the interRAI acute care and the mini-mental state examination.
The Cognitive Performance Scale (CPS) is generated from five items of the interRAI/ Minimum Data Set instruments, a comprehensive geriatric assessment method. CPS was initially designed to assess cognition in residential care, where it has shown good psychometric performance. We evaluated the performance of the interRAI Acute Care in identifying cognitive impairment among patients hospitalized on acute geriatric wards. ⋯ CPS can be used for coarse triage between intact and severe cognitive impairment. Although promising results have been obtained in residential and community settings, our results suggest that CPS fails to differentiate across different levels of cognitive impairment in hospitalized geriatric patients.

Prevalence of Parkinson disease and Parkinson disease dementia in community nursing homes.
To estimate the prevalence of Parkinson disease (PD) and Parkinson disease dementia (PDD) in community nursing homes. To estimate how many residents who meet criteria for PDD have been diagnosed with PDD and prescribed a Federal Drug Administration (FDA)-approved treatment for PDD. ⋯ In this sample of nursing home residents, the prevalence of PD was 7.7% and the overall prevalence of PDD was 3.7%. PDD remains an unrecognized entity in the nursing home setting. Close to half (48.65%) of nursing home residents with PD may have PDD at any given time and they remain undiagnosed and largely undertreated.

Multicenter StudyCognition and amyloid load in Alzheimer disease imaged with florbetapir F 18(AV-45) positron emission tomography.
To examine the association between regional brain uptake of a novel amyloid positron emission tomography (PET) tracer florbetapir F 18 ([(18)F]-AV-45) and cognitive performance in a pilot study. ⋯ [(18)F]-AV-45 SUVR in several brain regions was associated with worse global cognitive performance particularly in HC, suggesting its potential as a marker of preclinical AD.

The course of subsyndromal delirium in older long-term care residents.
To determine the course of incident subsyndromal delirium (SSD) in older long-term care (LTC) residents. A secondary objective was to explore the use of a more restrictive definition of SSD on the findings of the study. ⋯ Episodes of SSD in older LTC residents appeared to last 7-133 days (mean: 13.7) and were often recurrent. Use of a more restrictive definition resulted in a more protracted course.
