ReviewRole of music in the management of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD): a literature review.
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a pulmonary disease characterized by airflow limitation that is not fully reversible. It is projected to be the third leading cause of death worldwide by 2020. The objective of the study was to examine the impact of music on psychological and physiological outcomes among individuals with COPD. ⋯ More research of a longer duration and with a larger sample size is needed to examine the impact of music interventions on clinical, functional, psychological and physiological outcomes among COPD individuals.

Effects of motor-level transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation on ipsilateral and un-stimulated contralateral quadriceps femoris.
There is a paucity of data on effects of motor-level stimulation using Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulator (TENS) on ipsilateral quadriceps femoris group of muscles. The effect is also unknown on the untrained contralateral quadriceps femoris. The primary purpose of this study was to determine the effect of TENS on quadriceps muscle strength at the stimulated ipsilateral and un-stimulated contra-lateral extremities. ⋯ We concluded that there were increments in both strength and muscle size of the stimulated right quadriceps using motor level stimulation parameters of TENS modality. The un-stimulated contralateral quadriceps strength also increased after 8 weeks. This implied that there was cross-training effect at the contralateral quadriceps group of muscles.

Clinical TrialThe effect of 12 weeks Prop Pilates Exercise Program (PPEP) on body stability and pain for fruit farmers with MSDs.
The purpose of this study was to determine possible effects of 12-week Prop Pilates Exercise Program (PPEP) for the fruit farmers (grape, tomato, apple) with musculoskeletal disorders (MSD) on body stability and pain. 131 fruit farmers with MSD were selected and asked to join a 12-week Prop Pilates Exercise Program (PPEP) from 2009 to 2012. The subjects (female=74, male=57) aged 50 to 65 years old voluntarily participated. As a result, it was found that lateral-medial and anterior-posterior of body stability significantly improved in male and female fruit farmers. It was found that pain index (VAS) after 12-week Prop Pilates Exercise Program (PPEP) showed a significant decrease.

Navigated reconstruction of tibial head depression fractures by inflation osteoplasty.
Articular fracture reduction control remains a challenge even with the development of computer-assisted surgery. The Kyphoplasty procedure has shown advantages in treating vertebral fractures. One case report showed successful reduction of acetabular fractures using Kyphoplasty. ⋯ The Kyphon balloon was accurately placed with the aid of navigation. The depth was the decisive factor in the reduction of the fracture and not the diameter. In cadavers, depression fractures greater than 5~mm depth could not be reduced with our setup.

Randomized Controlled TrialComparison of chest compression quality between the modified chest compression method with the use of smartphone application and the standardized traditional chest compression method during CPR.
The purpose of this study is to grasp difference in quality of chest compression accuracy between the modified chest compression method with the use of smartphone application and the standardized traditional chest compression method. Participants were progressed 64 people except 6 absentees among 70 people who agreed to participation with completing the CPR curriculum. In the classification of group in participants, the modified chest compression method was called as smartphone group (33 people). ⋯ Even the proper chest compression (%) was formed suitably (p< 0.05) in traditional group (73.96%) more than smartphone group (60.51%). As for the awareness of chest compression accuracy, the traditional group (3.83 points) had the higher awareness of chest compression accuracy (p< 0.001) than the smartphone group (2.32 points). In the questionnaire that was additionally carried out 1 question only in smartphone group, the modified chest compression method with the use of smartphone had the high negative reason in rescuer for occurrence of hand back pain (48.5%) and unstable posture (21.2%).
