Comparative StudyImplementation and effects of pulse-contour- automated SVV/CI guided goal directed fluid therapy algorithm for the routine management of pancreatic surgery patients.
Goal directed fluid management in major abdominal surgery has shown to reduce perioperative complications. The approach aims to optimize the intravascular fluid volume by use of minimally invasive devices which calculate flow-directed variables such as stroke volume (SV) and stroke volume variation (SVV). ⋯ Implementation of a SOP for a GDT in the daily routine using flow-related parameters is feasible and is associated with better outcomes in pancreatic surgery.

Randomized Controlled TrialA pocket-sized hand held ultrasound system for intraoperative transthoracic echocardiography by anaesthesiologists: A feasibility study.
The intraoperative application of focused transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) is often considered to be restricted. Echocardiography with pocket-sized hand held ultrasound systems has been shown to be feasible in various settings. ⋯ The application of a pocket-sized echocardiography device for focused intraoperative TTE is feasible and can appropriate be used for the initial evaluation of relevant pathologies in the operating theatre.

Comparative StudyCost-minimization analysis favours intravenous ferric carboxymaltose over ferric sucrose or oral iron as preoperative treatment in patients with colon cancer and iron deficiency anaemia.
Ferric Carboxymaltose (FCM), Iron Sucrose (IS) and Oral Iron (OI) are alternative treatments for preoperative anaemia. ⋯ FCM infusion before surgery reduced costs in patients with colon cancer and iron-deficiency anaemia when compared with OI and IS.

Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers with a high mortality rate among women. With the early diagnosis of breast cancer survival will increase from 56% to more than 86%. Therefore, an accurate and reliable system is necessary for the early diagnosis of this cancer. The proposed model is the combination of rules and different machine learning techniques. Machine learning models can help physicians to reduce the number of false decisions. They try to exploit patterns and relationships among a large number of cases and predict the outcome of a disease using historical cases stored in datasets. ⋯ This study demonstrates that Trees Random Forest model (TRF) which is a rule-based classification model was the best model with the highest level of accuracy. Therefore, this model is recommended as a useful tool for breast cancer survival prediction as well as medical decision making.

A mobile asset sharing policy for hospitals with real time locating systems.
Each year, hospitals lose a considerable amount of time and money due to misplaced mobile assets. In addition the assets which remain in departments that frequently use them depreciate early, while other assets of the same type in different departments are rarely used. A real time locating system can prevent these losses when used with appropriate asset sharing policies. ⋯ Real time locating systems enable saving considerable amount of time in hospitals, and they can still be improved by integrating decision support mechanisms. Combining tracking technology and asset selection rules helps improve healthcare services.
