Percutaneous lateral ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction.
Open surgical reconstruction of the lateral ulnar collateral ligament is the standard treatment for symptomatic posterolateral rotatory instability of the elbow. It involves dissection and retraction of the lateral elbow muscles, which have been shown to be secondary stabilizers of the lateral elbow. We introduce a new muscle-protecting technique for single-strand lateral ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction and report on the isometry and primary stability when compared with a conventional muscle-splitting procedure. It was hypothesized that percutaneous lateral ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction provided isometry over the range of motion and that stability was comparable with a conventional open procedure. ⋯ Percutaneous lateral ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction aims to preserve the lateral elbow muscles and to minimize soft tissue dissection. It has been shown that in an in vitro setup, this new procedure provides isometry over the range of motion and sufficiently restores posterolateral rotatory stability.

Comparative StudyAge does not influence the clinical outcome after high tibial osteotomy.
Valgus high tibial osteotomy (HTO) is an established procedure for the medial gonarthrosis. In several studies, many negative influencing factors were evaluated. However, until now, the factor "age" was examined only insufficiently. The aim of our study was to evaluate the factor age in predicting the functional outcome after HTO, and we hypothesized that valgus HTO leads to equal results in the treatment of varus osteoarthritis independent of the patient's age. ⋯ III.

Multicenter Study Comparative Study Clinical TrialShort-term safety and efficacy of a novel high tibial osteotomy system: a case controlled study.
To evaluate the safety and efficacy of the novel iBalance Medial Opening Wedge High Tibial Osteotomy (HTO) system in executing lower limb realignment in patients with symptomatic varus gonarthrosis. ⋯ The iBalance medial opening wedge HTO system has been shown to be a safe, novel implant for use in proximal tibial osteotomy. This study shows that the iBalance medial opening wedge HTO system has an equivalent short-term safety and efficacy profile to the 2nd generation Puddu system.

Meta Analysis Comparative StudyThe impact of a high tibial valgus osteotomy and unicondylar medial arthroplasty on the treatment for knee osteoarthritis: a meta-analysis.
Both high tibial valgus osteotomy (HTO) and unicompartmental medial knee arthroplasty (UKA) are established methods for the treatment for moderate stages of OA. This is the first global meta-analysis to compare the long-term effects of both methods regarding survival, outcomes and complications of total arthroplasty. ⋯ II.

Clinical TrialA case series of lateral opening wedge high tibial osteotomy for valgus malalignment.
Lateral opening wedge high tibial osteotomy is a rarely employed surgical technique used for the treatment of lateral knee pain and degeneration in the setting of genu valgum. There exists little evidence of the suitability of this procedure for patients requiring osteotomies with a small correction. ⋯ IV.
