The influence of sex hormones on anterior cruciate ligament rupture: female study.
The purpose of this study was to determine the difference in the concentrations of testosterone, 17-β estradiol and progesterone between female patients with and without ACL rupture and the possible effect of these hormones on generalised joint laxity. ⋯ Decreased concentrations of testosterone, 17-β estradiol or progesterone may be a risk factor leading to ACL rupture. The concentrations of these hormones do not affect generalised joint laxity. Additional research on a larger group of patients is necessary to further determine the effects of these hormones on generalised joint laxity and ACL ruptures. Young female athletes with lower concentrations of sex hormones are more prone to anterior cruciate ligament rupture which is why they need to reduce their sports activities during the pre-ovulatory phase of the menstrual cycle, when these concentrations are additionally reduced.

Randomized Controlled TrialEfficacy of intraarticular application of ketamine or ketamine-levobupivacaine combination on post-operative pain after arthroscopic meniscectomy.
To evaluate the efficacy of intraarticular injection of ketamine or ketamine plus levobupivacaine on post-operative analgesia in patients undergoing arthroscopic meniscectomy. ⋯ Intraarticular ketamine provides effective post-operative analgesia. Addition of intraarticular levobupivacaine to ketamine may provide better amelioration of pain after outpatient arthroscopic meniscectomy.

Anatomic observation of the running space of the suprascapular nerve at the suprascapular notch in the same direction as the nerve.
The configuration of suprascapular notch was previously analysed from the anteroposterior viewing. However, the approach direction of the suprascapular nerve (SSN) to the inlet of the suprascapular notch is consistently craniocaudal and mediolateral. We propose a new method to observe the suprascapular notch according to the running course of the SSN. We reviewed the anatomic characteristics of the suprascapular notch in relation to the nerve. ⋯ Based on the present study, the space between the STSL and deep fascia of the subscapularis formed the space for the nerve to run through. As a clinical implication, this new method to assess the suprascapular notch in the nerve approach direction might develop the imaging techniques for evaluation of SSN entrapment.

Clinical TrialSuture anchor repair of proximal rectus femoris avulsions in elite football players.
To report the results of suture anchor repair of proximal rectus femoris avulsions in elite football players. ⋯ Suture anchor repair of proximal rectus femoris avulsions allows unrestricted return to play in professional elite football players. Return to play can be expected at approximately 16 weeks post-operatively.

Lower limb clinical and radiographic osteoarthritis in former elite male athletes.
To investigate the prevalence of lower extremities clinical and radiographic OA in former elite male athletes and referents from the general population and to examine its association with the participants' demographic characteristics. ⋯ In the absence of major bone and soft tissue lower limb trauma during their athletic career, former elite athletes may not be at increased risk of developing clinical OA. Radiographic signs of OA present at a significantly higher incidence and possibly precede the clinical onset of OA. Age, BMI and occupation are identified as strong predictors of the development of OA in former elite athletes.
