Review Meta AnalysisA meta-analysis comparing meniscal repair with meniscectomy in the treatment of meniscal tears: the more meniscus, the better outcome?
The meniscus plays an important role in the knee joint. Meniscal tears are the most common knee injuries, are seen in all age groups and have several causes. Meniscectomy and meniscal repair, including open or arthroscopic procedures, are common operations for orthopaedic surgeons. The purpose of this meta-analysis was to review published articles that compared meniscal repair (open suture and arthroscopic inside-out procedures) with meniscectomy (arthroscopic partial or total meniscectomy) for short- or long-term outcomes and to determine which procedure leads to a better outcome. ⋯ Meta-analysis, Level III.

What is the best way to fix a polyurethane meniscal scaffold? A biomechanical evaluation of different fixation modes.
Ingrowth of meniscal tissue into a meniscal scaffold can be optimized by securely fixing the scaffold into the meniscal remnants. The purpose of this research was to test and compare commonly used suture types and suture materials to fix a meniscal scaffold. ⋯ The most common failure mode when fixing a polyurethane-based meniscal scaffold is suture pull-through of the scaffold in the distraction mode. This happens at a rather low pullout force and might preclude the use of this scaffold clinically. Vertical sutures and Ethibond 0 multifilament braided sutures fail at lower forces, and the tested commercial devices show promising results.

Platelet-rich plasma for open meniscal repair in young patients: any benefit?
Many studies have demonstrated that injection of various growth factors including platelet-derived growth factor could increase meniscal cell activity and stimulate repair. The purpose of this study was to augment repair and promote meniscal healing by the use of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) within horizontal cleavage meniscal tears repaired via an open approach. The hypothesis was that the clinical outcomes and healing process would be improved using this meniscal healing augmentation technique. ⋯ III.

Meniscal and articular cartilage lesions in the anterior cruciate ligament-deficient knee: correlation between time from injury and knee scores.
Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rupture is associated with meniscal tears and/or articular cartilage damage. The aim of this study was twofold: (a) to report and correlate the incidence of meniscal and cartilage lesions in ACL-deficient knees with time from injury and (b) to correlate lesions of menisci and cartilage with widely used knee scores. ⋯ Diagnostic study, Level II.
