The objective of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of the Penn classification in predicting in-hospital mortality after surgery in acute type A aortic dissection patients. ⋯ Preoperative malperfusion is important for the evaluation of patients with acute aortic type A dissection. The Penn classification is a simple and quick method to apply and predict in-hospital mortality and outcomes.

The contribution of arterial functional and structural changes to left ventricular (LV) diastolic dysfunction has been the area of recent research. There are some studies on the relationship between arterial stiffness (a.s.) and left atrial (LA) remodelling as a marker of diastolic burden. Little is known about the association of arterial structural changes and LA remodelling in hypertension (H). ⋯ There is a significant relationship between carotid arterial stiffness but not intima-media thickness and LA volume in patients with untreated hypertension.

Transvenous lead extraction (TLE) is a recognized method of treatment in the case of permanent stimulation complication. ⋯ The dominant indication to TLE procedures was lead dysfunction. Transvenous lead extraction has a high success rate and a low complication rate. Low BMI increased the complication rate.
