Obstetric risk factors associated with placenta previa development: case-control study.
To evaluate potential risk factors and perinatal outcome of pregnancies complicated with placenta previa in Croatian population of pregnant women recruited from the largest tertiary care perinatal center in Croatia. ⋯ The most important obstetric factors for placenta previa development were advanced maternal age especially >34 years, 3 or more previous pregnancies, parity of 2 and more, rising number of previous abortions, and history of previous cesarean section, but not child sex at birth, history of drug abuse and previous placenta previa. Smoking cigarettes was significantly less frequent in women with placenta previa. Preterm delivery still remains the greatest problem in pregnancies complicated with placenta previa.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study Clinical TrialPrilocaine versus plain or buffered lidocaine for local anesthesia in laceration repair: randomized double-blind comparison.
To compare the effectiveness of 2% prilocaine plain solution, 1% lidocaine hydrochloride, and 1% buffered lidocaine in local anesthesia and pain reduction during injection in laceration repair. ⋯ Injection of 1% lidocaine was associated with lower pain ratings on suturing needle puncture than with 2% prilocaine or buffered 1% lidocaine.

Journal publications from Zagreb University Medical School in 1995-1999.
To analyze a five-year publication output of the Zagreb University Medical School in scientific journals, especially in the journals covered by the Current Contents (CC), bibliographic database of the Institute for Scientific Information. ⋯ Publication output of the Zagreb University Medical School shows imbalances characteristic of a small scientific community: productivity with extreme values, relatively unsatisfactory number of papers published in the international journals covered by the CC database as compared to their importance in the process of the academic promotion, and disproportional role of certain domestic journals covered by the CC.

Comparative StudyAppropriateness of emergency department visits in a Turkish university hospital.
To determine the patterns and appropriateness of patients' use of a university hospital emergency department. ⋯ Although inappropriate emergency department usage was high, these patients had relatively short emergency department stays. The impact on emergency department resource utilization and "over-crowding" by these patients may not be as great as commonly perceived.
