Background and objectives: Sargassum miyabei Yendo, belonging to the family Sargassaceae, has been reported to have various biological effects such as anti-tyrosinase activity and anti-inflammation. However, the anti-obesity effect of Sargassum miyabei Yendo has not yet been reported. Materials and Methods: The effects of Sargassum miyabei Yendo extract (SME) on 3T3-L1 adipocytes were screened by3-(4,5)-dimethylthiazo-2-yl-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT), Oil red O staining, western blot, and Real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction analyses. ⋯ In addition, SME significantly suppressed lipid accumulation and differentiation of 3T3-L1 preadipocytes, as shown by Oil Red O staining results. SME attenuated the expression of adipogenic- and lipogenic-related genes such as peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARγ), CCAAT-enhancer-binding protein alpha (C/EBPα), CCAAT-enhancer-binding protein delta (C/EBPδ), adiponectin, adipose triglyceride lipase (ATGL), fatty acid synthase (FAS), hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL), and lipoprotein lipase (LPL). Conclusions: These findings suggest that SME may have therapeutic implications for developing a new anti-obesity agent.

Treatment resistance is prevalent in early intervention in psychosis services, and causes a significant burden for the individual. A wide range of variables are shown to contribute to treatment resistance in first episode psychosis (FEP). Heterogeneity in illness course and the complex, multidimensional nature of the concept of recovery calls for an evidence base to better inform practice at an individual level. ⋯ The move towards 'big data' and machine learning holds some prospect for stratifying intervention-based subgroups of individuals. Moving forward, better recognition of early treatment resistance is needed, along with greater sophistication and precision in predicting outcomes, so that effective evidence-based treatments can be appropriately tailored to the individual. Understanding the antecedents and the early trajectory of one's illness may also be key to understanding the factors that drive illness course.

Background and objectives: This study aimed to determine the cut-off values of the following three respiratory pressure meters; the voluntary peak cough flow (PCF), maximal expiratory pressure (MEP) and maximal inspiratory pressure (MIP); associated with post-stroke dysphagia and assess which of these parameters show good diagnostic properties associated with post-stroke dysphagia. Materials and Methods: Retrospective analysis of a prospectively maintained database. Records of patients with first-ever diagnosed dysphagia attributable to cerebrovascular disease, who had performed spirometry measurements for the PCF, MIP and MEP. ⋯ Multivariable analysis showed that after controlling of other clinical factor, the PCFs at this cut-off value still showed increased risk of by 4.19 (2.02-83.69) but this was not observed with the MIPs or MEPs. Conclusions: Our study has provided cut-off values that are associated with increased risk of dysphagia. Among the three parameters, PCF showed increased association with post-stroke dysphagia.

Background and objectives: Mutational analysis has led to a better understanding of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) biology and to an improvement in clinical management. Some of the most important mutations that affect AML biology are represented by mutations in genes related to methylation, more specifically: TET2, IDH1, IDH2 and WT1. Because it has been shown in numerous studies that mutations in these genes lead to similar expression profiles and phenotypes in AML, we decided to assess if mutations in any of those genes interact with other genes important for AML. ⋯ Because there were only 16 cases of RUNX1 mutant samples and that mutations in this gene determined a change in mRNA expression, we further observed the correlation between RUNX1 and other mRNAs in subgroups regarding the presence of hypermethylating mutations and NPM1. Here, we observed that both TET2/IDH1/2/WT1 and NPM1 mutations increase the number of genes negatively correlated with RUNX1 and that these genes were significantly linked to myeloid activation. Conclusions: In the current study, we have shown that NPM1 and TET2/IDH1/2/WT1 mutations increase the number of negative correlations of RUNX1 with other transcripts involved in myeloid differentiation.

Interventional Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance Imaging (iCMR) in an Adolescent with Pulmonary Hypertension.
The interventional cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (iCMR) catheterization procedure is feasible and safe for children and adults with pulmonary hypertension and congenital heart defects (CHD). With iCMR, the calculation of pulmonary vascular resistance (PVR) in children with complex CHD with multilevel shunt lesions is accurate. In this paper, we describe the role of the MRI-guided right-sided cardiac catheterization procedure to accurately estimate PVR in the setting of multiple shunt lesions (ventricular septal defect and patent ductus arteriosus) and to address the clinical question of operability in an adolescent with trisomy 21 and severe pulmonary hypertension.
