Background and Objectives: The population has been overwhelmed with false information related to the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) crisis, spreading rapidly through social media and other channels. We aimed to investigate if frontline healthcare workers affected by infodemia show different psychological consequences than frontline clinicians who do not declare to be affected by false news related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Materials and Methods: One hundred twenty-six frontline healthcare workers from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Emergency Departments in Romania completed a survey to assess stress, depression, anxiety, and sleep disorders, between March and April 2020. ⋯ Results: Considering limitations such as the cross-sectional design, the lack of causality relationship, and the sample size, the results show that, the frontline medical workers who declared to be affected by false news were significantly more stressed, felt more anxiety, and suffered more from insomnia than healthcare workers who are not affected by false information related to pandemic time. Conclusions: The infodemia has significant psychological consequences such as stress, anxiety, and insomnia on already overwhelmed doctors and nurses in the outbreak of the COVID-19 crisis. These findings suggest that medical misinformation's psychological implications must be considered when different interventions regarding frontline healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic are implemented.

Background and objectives: Cancer coagulopathy is thought to be partially due to the up-regulation of tissue factor (TF), thrombin-antithrombin complex (TAT) and soluble P-selectin (sP-selectin). The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical significance of TF, TAT and sP-selectin in patients with pancreatic cancer. Materials and methods: The study included 93 subjects: 73 newly diagnosed patients with pancreatic adenocarcinoma (42 with stage I-III and 31 with metastatic cancer (stage IV)) and a control group of 20 healthy subjects. ⋯ Moreover, patients with metastases had significantly higher TAT concentration compared to the I-III cancer group. On the other hand, only the metastatic patients group showed significantly higher plasma sP-selectin levels compared to the controls (p = 0.009), whereas there was no difference between localized and metastatic cancer patients. Conclusions: The coagulation disorders are present in the majority of patients with pancreatic adenocarcinoma already at the diagnosis stage and reflect cancer progression and spread.

Background and objectives: Deficient mismatch repair (MMR) status is associated with good prognosis but poor therapeutic response to adjuvant chemotherapy in patients with colorectal cancer. However, there are some opposed arguments considering therapeutic outcomes in patients with evidenced MMR deficiency in colorectal cancer. The aim of the study was the investigation of prognostic value and immunohistochemical analysis of the MMR-deficiency tumors. ⋯ The loss of mutL homologue 1/postmeiotic segregation increased 2 (MLH1/PMS2) expression, compared to proficient MMR tumors, was associated with shorter disease-free survival in patients with lymphovascular invasion (p < 0.05), perineural invasion (p < 0.01), stage III (p < 0.05) and high-grade tumor (p < 0.05). Conclusions: This retrospective pilot study of a single-center cohort of patients with stage II and III colorectal cancer highlights the clinical importance of using immunohistochemistry (IHC) analysis as a guide for diagnostic algorithm in a country with limited resources, but with a high prevalence of colorectal carcinoma in the young patients. MMR-deficiency tumors compared with proficient MMR colorectal cancer was not shown to be a significant predictor of disease-free and overall survival.

Background and objectives: Native ultrasound is the most common imaging modality in obstetrics. The use of contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) during pregnancy has not been officially approved by leading societies for obstetrics and ultrasound. The present study aims to monitor the safety and diagnostic performance of CEUS for assessing abdominal issues in five pregnant women. ⋯ CEUS helped to diagnose renal angiomyolipoma, pyelonephritis, necrotic uterine fibroid, gallbladder polyp, and superior mesenteric vein thrombosis. Conclusions: In our study, off-label use of CEUS showed an excellent safety profile allowing the avoidance of ionizing radiation exposure as well as contrast agents in case of CT or use of gadolinium-based contrast agents in case of MRI. CEUS is a promising diagnostic instrument for facilitating clinical decision-making and improving the management of pregnant women.

Background and objectives: The aims of this study were to investigate changes in the hemodynamics associated with different types of aortic prostheses and to evaluate patient-prosthesis mismatch (PPM) at rest and after exercise. Materials and Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 150 patients who presented with indications for aortic valve replacement (AVR) with/without concomitant surgery from March 2019 to January 2020. The study population included 90 (60%) men and 60 (40%) women (mean age, 67.33 ± 10.22 years; range, 37-88 years). ⋯ However, the stented group showed more pronounced changes in EOA and iEOA after exercise, whereas the changes in the mechanical valve group did not reach significance. Conclusions: In the early postoperative period, mechanical valves and stented valves showed favorable resting hemodynamics. The PPM rate measured after exercise was lower than that at rest.
