Open traumatic lesion of the popliteal artery is relatively rare. Ischemia time longer than 6 h and severity of limb ischemia have been shown to be associated with an increased risk of limb loss. ⋯ We report the case of a young female who suffered a traumatic transection of the popliteal artery associated with an open fracture of the distal tibia and fibula managed by direct vessel reconstruction with an end-to-end repair and skeletal stabilization initially with half-pin external fixation, then replaced by an Ilizarov circular frame. The patient had a very satisfactory outcome, but the fracture healed malunited, later corrected by open reduction and internal fixation with lag-screwing and a neutralization plate.

Background and objectives: The influence of changes in spinal alignment after total hip arthroplasty (THA) on improvement in lower back pain (LBP) remains controversial. To evaluate how changes in spinal malalignment correlate with improvement in preoperative LBP in patients who underwent THA for hip osteoarthritis. Materials and Methods: From November 2015 to January 2017, 104 consecutive patients who underwent unilateral THA were prospectively registered. ⋯ Fourteen (54%) of the 26 patients with preoperative LBP showed pain improvement, but there were no significant differences in the radiographic parameters. Conclusions: Although preoperative LBP was likely to be resolved after THA, there were no significant correlations between alignment changes and LBP improvement. The cause of LBP in patients with hip osteoarthritis (OA) patients might be multifactorial.

Background and Objectives: This study aims to determine prevalence of masked uncontrolled hypertension (MUH) in frail geriatric patients with arterial hypertension and thus show the role of ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) since hypertension occurs in more than 80% of people 60+ years and cardiovascular diseases are the main cause of death worldwide. Despite modern pharmacotherapy, use of combination therapy and normal office blood pressure (BP), patients' prognoses might worsen due to inadequate therapy (never-detected MUH). ⋯ Conclusions: ABPM is essential for frail geriatric patients due to high prevalence of MUH, which cannot be detected based on office BP measurements. ABPM also helps to detect exaggerated morning surge, isolated systolic hypertension, dipping/non-dipping, and set and properly manage adequate treatment, which reduces incidence of cardiovascular events and contributes to decreasing the financial burden of society.

Background and Objectives: Leg extension angle is important for increasing the propulsion force during gait and is a meaningful indicator for evaluating gait quality in stroke patients. Although leg extension angle during late stance might potentially also affect lower limb kinematics during the swing phase, the relationship between these two remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between leg extension angle and knee flexion angle during pre-swing and swing phase in post-stroke gait. ⋯ Partial correlation analysis adjusted by the FMA-LL showed significant correlation between leg extension angle and knee flexion angle during the swing phase (r = 0.602, p = 0.001) and knee flexion angle and increments of velocity during the pre-swing phase (r = 0.655-0.886, p < 0.001). Conclusions: Leg extension angle affected kinematics during the swing phase in post-stroke gait regardless of the severity of paralysis, and was similar during the pre-swing phase. These results would guide the development of effective gait training programs that enable a safe and efficient gait for stroke patients.

Background and Objectives: Recently, many studies have focused on the early detection of Parkinson's disease (PD). This disease belongs to a group of neurological problems that immediately affect brain cells and influence the movement, hearing, and various cognitive functions. Medical data sets are often not equally distributed in their classes and this gives a bias in the classification of patients. ⋯ Results: For model evaluation, the train-test split technique was used for the experiment. All the models were Grid-search tuned, the evaluation results of the SVM model showed the highest accuracy of 98.2%, and the KNN model exhibited the highest specificity of 99%. Conclusions: the proposed method is compared with the current modern methods of detecting Parkinson's disease and other methods for medical diseases, it was noted that our developed system could treat data bias and reach a high prediction of PD and this can be beneficial for health organizations to properly prioritize assets.
