Background and objectives: Global sagittal imbalance with lumbar hypo-lordosis can cause low back pain (LBP) during standing and/or walking. This condition has recently been well-known as one of the major causes of reduced health-related quality of life (HRQOL) in elderly populations. Decrease in disc space of anterior elements and an increase in the spinous process height of posterior elements may both contribute to the decrease in lordosis of the lumbar spine. ⋯ The mean Oswestry Disability Index score was improved from 32.4% to 19.1% in six cases, with one worsened case. Conclusions: We performed PRSP and lumbar extension exercise for the patients with LBP due to lumbar kyphosis. This minimally invasive treatment was considered to be effective in improving the symptoms of low back pain and HRQOL, especially of elderly patients with lumbar kyphosis.

Background and objectives: Cervical leiomyomas are a rare benign disease. Although they are mainly treated surgically, currently, there is not a standardized treatment for cervical leiomyomas. This study aims to summarize current literature evidence about treatment options for cervical leiomyomas. ⋯ The total rate of surgical complications was 5.6%. Conclusion: Surgery is the primary therapeutic option for cervical leiomyomas with a low rate of surgical complications. Interventional radiology techniques have reported promising but still limited results.

In our increasingly stressed world, especially with the COVID-19 pandemic, the activation of the threat network in everyday situations can adversely affect our mental and physical health. Neurophysiological response to these threats/challenges depends on the type of challenge and the individual's neuroadaptability. ⋯ Neuroadaptability differs from neuroplasticity, which is more inclusive and refers to the ability of the nervous system to change and learn from any experience. We examine neuroadaptability and how it affects health from the perspective of modern medicine and Ayurveda.

Background and Objectives: Tumours are often low immunogenic. The role of complement, an innate immune defence system, in tumour control has begun to be elucidated, but findings are conflicting. A role for properdin, an amplifier of complement activation, in tumour control has recently been implicated. ⋯ Results: Whilst there was no difference in tumour growth at study endpoint, properdin-deficient mice had significantly fewer myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) in their tumours and spleens. Splenic M2 type macrophages and serum levels of C5a, sC5b-9, and CCL2 were decreased in properdin-deficient compared to wildtype mice. Conclusions: The presence of intact complement amplification sustains an environment that lessens potential anti-tumour responses.
