Review Meta Analysis
Association between IL-8 (-251T/A) and IL-6 (-174G/C) Polymorphisms and Oral Cancer Susceptibility: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.
Inflammation and cell-mediated immunity can have significant roles in different stages of carcinogenesis. The present meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the association between the polymorphisms of IL-8 (-251T/A) and IL-6 (-174G/C) and the risk of oral cancer (OC). ⋯ The meta-analysis confirmed that there was no association between the polymorphisms of IL-6 (-174G/C) and IL-8 (-251T/A) and the susceptibility of OC. However, the source of control and the genotyping method could unfavorably impact on the association between the polymorphisms of IL-6 (-174G/C) and the risk OC.

Background and objectives: Internal fixation is one of the most effective methods for the treatment of proximal femur fractures. The migration of implants after the operation can seriously affect the reduction of treatment and even cause complications. ⋯ Methods: Based on the analysis of Hansson pins, this paper proposes a measurement method based on three-dimensional matching, which uses computerized tomography (CT) images of different periods of patients after the operation to analyze the implants' migration in three-dimensional space with the characteristics of fast speed and intuitive results. Results and conclusions: The measurement results show that the method proposed in this paper has more minor errors, more flexible coordinate system conversion, and more explicit displacement analysis than the traditional method of manually finding references in CT images and measuring displacement.

The efficacy of combined intravitreal bevacizumab injection with systemic chemotherapy, palliative radiotherapy, and hormonal therapy to treat choroidal and orbital metastases is not known. Herein, we report the case of a 48-year-old woman with systemic chemotherapy-resistant choroidal and orbital metastases of the left eye originating from a stage IV invasive ductal carcinoma of the left breast. ⋯ The patient's outcome at 6-month follow-up was favorable, as the metastatic lesion reduced in size and visual acuity improved. Combined treatment with intravitreal bevacizumab injection, systemic chemotherapy, palliative radiotherapy, and hormonal therapy can resolve ocular metastatic lesions originating from breast cancers.

With the advances in obesity research, a variety of animal models have been developed to investigate obesity pathogenesis, development, therapies and complications. Such obese animals would not only allow us to explore obesity but would also represent models to study diseases and conditions that develop with obesity or where obesity represents a risk factor. Indeed, obese subjects, as well as animal models of obesity, develop pathologies such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, inflammation and metabolic disorders. ⋯ On the other hand, obesity prevalence is continuously increasing, and, therefore, the likelihood of having a patient suffering simultaneously from obesity and a particular disease is increasing. Thus, studying diverse diseases in obese animals (either induced naturally or developed) would allow researchers to build a library of data related to the patterns or specificities of obese patients within the context of pathologies. This may lead to a new branch of medicine specifically dedicated to the diseases and care of obese patients, similar to geriatric medicine, which focuses on the elderly population.

The clinical diagnosis of asbestosis is primarily based on chest radiographic evidence of pleural thickening and interstitial fibrosis combined with a history of exposure to asbestos. We report herein the case of a 65-year-old man with asbestosis pathologically diagnosed after surgical lung biopsy. He had a work history including farming, cementing, and casting and was admitted with dyspnea. ⋯ We suspected metastatic lung cancer and video-assisted thoracoscopic biopsy was performed in the lung lesion of the right lower lobe. Asbestosis was confirmed following histological examination. The patient is currently completing outpatient visits without significant changes.
