Background and objectives: There have been many reports of mental health in the pandemic period. The research conducted so far has indicated an increase in the severity of anxiety and aggression and an escalation of alcohol consumption during the COVID-19 pandemic. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between the severity of anxiety, the amount of alcohol consumed and the severity of aggression. ⋯ Those relationships turned out to be gender specific. The increased anxiety intensity affected the pattern of alcohol consumption and the severity of aggression. Conclusions: Psychotherapeutic and psychoeducational interactions and some elements of psychiatric treatment should aim at reducing the severity of anxiety in society, and thus minimizing the health and social consequences-aggressive behaviour and excessive alcohol consumption.

Background and Objectives: Autonomic nervous system (ANS) dysfunction is present in early stages of alcohol abuse and increases the likelihood of cardiovascular events. Given the nonlinear pattern of dynamic interaction between sympathetic nervous system (SNS) and para sympathetic nervous system (PNS) and the complex relationship with lifestyle factors, machine learning (ML) algorithms are best suited for analyzing alcohol impact over heart rate variability (HRV), because they allow the analysis of complex interactions between multiple variables. This study aimed to characterize autonomic nervous system dysfunction by analysis of HRV correlated with cardiovascular risk factors in young individuals by using machine learning. ⋯ Gender and physical activity had the lowest impact on HRV. Conclusions: In healthy young adults, high alcohol intake has a negative impact on HRV in both time and frequency-domains. In parameters like HRV, where a multitude of risk factors can influence measurements, artificial intelligence algorithms seem to be a viable alternative for correct assessment.

The Clamshell Osteotomy for Diaphyseal Malunion in Deformity Correction and Fracture Surgery.
Diaphyseal malunion poses a great challenge for the orthopedic surgeon, and an inundation of morbidity for the patient. Diaphyseal malunion can cause altered gait, adjacent joint osteoarthritis and body dissatisfaction. This problem is fraught with complications without surgical intervention. ⋯ The clamshell osteotomy was engendered to ameliorate the difficulty in managing this issue. This technique is a viable option to correct diaphyseal malunion about the femur and tibia. Recently, the indications of a clamshell osteotomy have been expanded to function as a derotational or shortening osteotomy.

Background and objectives: Our department has been performing primary breast reconstruction for breast cancer surgery, incorporating a transverse rectus abdominis myocutaneous flap (TRAM)/vertical rectus abdominis myocutaneous flap (VRAM) since 1998 and a deep inferior epigastric artery perforator flap (DIEP) since 2008. Currently, most gastrointestinal operations in abdominal surgery are performed laparoscopically or are robot-assisted. Cases in which abdominal surgery was performed after breast reconstruction using an abdominal flap were reviewed. ⋯ Six surgeries were completed by laparoscopy or robotic assistance. Conclusion: The survival rate after breast cancer surgery is improving, and the choice of breast reconstruction procedure should take into account the possibility of performing a prophylactic resection of the ovaries due to the genetic background and possibly postoperative abdominal surgery due to other diseases. However, in cases in which laparoscopic surgery was attempted after breast reconstruction using an abdominal flap, the laparoscopic surgery could be completed in all cases.

Background and Objectives: Hyperuricemia is associated with several comorbidities. The association between uric acid (UA) and pulmonary function is still a controversial issue. This study evaluated the gender-specific association of serum UA and pulmonary function. ⋯ There was no significant association between UA levels and lung function in males. After additional adjustment for respiratory disease including pulmonary tuberculosis, asthma, and lung cancer, the association between hyperuricemia and decreased FEV1 and FVC in females was revealed. Conclusions: Hyperuricemia was associated with decreased FVE1 and FVC in the female general population.
