Background and Objectives: Intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) is the term used to describe a fetus whose estimated weight is less than the 10th percentile of its age growth curve. IUGR is the second most common cause of perinatal death. In many cases there is a deficiency in the standardization of optimal management, prenatal follow-up and timing of delivery. ⋯ In this case the first early sign of fetal hypoxia was revealed by blood flow changes in the tibial artery. Results: We hypothesize that peripheral vascular changes (in the tibial artery) may more accurately reflect the onset of deterioration in the condition of the IUGR fetus, such that peripheral blood flow monitoring ought to be employed along with other techniques already in use. Conclusion: This paper describes the clinical presentation of an early detection of late IUGR hypoxia and claims that blood flow changes in the tibial artery signal the worsening of the fetus's condition.

Background and Objectives: Whole body vibration is widely used to enhance muscle performance, but evidence of its effects on the tendon stiffness of the knee extensor tendon in stroke remains inconclusive. Our study was aimed to determine the difference in patellar and quadriceps tendon stiffness between hemiparetic and unaffected limbs in stroke patients and to investigate the immediate effect of whole body vibration on tendon stiffness. Materials and Methods: The patellar and quadriceps tendon stiffness of first-ever hemiplegic stroke patients was evaluated with elastography to compare the differences between hemiparetic and unaffected limbs. ⋯ There were no significant changes in tendon stiffness after a single session of whole body vibration. Conclusions: In conclusion, knee extensor tendon stiffness in hemiparetic limbs is positively correlated to the degree of knee extensor spasticity in stroke patients. However, a single session of whole body vibration does not alter tendon stiffness.

Ocular Decompression Retinopathy after Anterior Chamber Paracentesis for Neovascular Glaucoma.
Ocular decompression retinopathy (ODR) is a rare complication associated with intraocular pressure (IOP)-lowering interventions. We report a case of neovascular glaucoma in the left eye with marked IOP elevation (33 mmHg in the left eye). ⋯ One day after the procedure, several intraretinal hemorrhages, Roth spots, and subhyaloid hemorrhages appeared in the fundus of the left eye. Left eye retinopathy was likely ODR because of the rapid decline in IOP.

Background: Neonatal intrahepatic cholestasis caused by citrin deficiency (NICCD) is a rare autosomal recessive disease. The incidence of citrin deficiency is estimated between 1/10,000 and 1/20,000 in Taiwan. Case report: This report describes a case of a 42 day old female infant who suffered from prolonged jaundice, poor weight gain, and anemia. ⋯ Treatment with ursodeoxycholic acid decreased the bilirubin levels to a normal range at the age of 5 months. Conclusion: This report illustrates that hepatic steatosis is a feature of NICCD. For every young infant patient who develops cholestasis, the pediatrician must consider NICCD as a differential diagnosis even if newborn screening shows normal findings.

Mirror syndrome (MS) or Ballantyne's syndrome is a rare maternal condition that can be life-threatening for both mother and fetus. The condition is characterized by maternal signs and symptoms similar to those seen in preeclampsia in the setting of fetal hydrops. ⋯ The following case illustrates how patients' non-compliance associated with mirror syndrome and SARS-CoV-2 infection led to the tragic end of a 19-year-old patient. Therefore, knowledge of the signs and symptoms of mirror syndrome should always be part of the armamentarium of every obstetrician.
