Effect of the Helping Babies Breathe Program on Newborn Outcomes: Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.
Background and objectives: In low- and middle-income countries, the leading cause of neonatal mortality is perinatal asphyxia. Training in neonatal resuscitation has been shown to decrease this cause of mortality. The program "Helping Babies Breathe" (HBB) is a program to teach basic neonatal resuscitation focused on countries and areas with limited economic resources. ⋯ The poled results showed a decrease in overall mortality (OR 0.67; 95% CI 0.57, 0.80), intrapartum stillbirth mortality (OR 0.62; 95% CI 0.51, 0.75), and first-day mortality (OR 0.70; 95% IC 0.64, 0.77). High heterogeneity was found, which was partly explained by differences in the gestational age of the participants. Conclusions: The implementation of the program HBB in low- and medium-income countries has a significant impact on reducing early neonatal mortality.

Background and Objectives:Due to the rarity of radial nerve palsy in humeral shaft fractures in the paediatric population and the lack of data in the literature, the purpose of our study was to report the treatment results of six children who sustained a radial nerve injury following a humeral shaft fracture. Materials and Methods: We treated six paediatric patients with radial nerve palsy caused by a humeral shaft fracture in our department from January 2011 to June 2022. The study group consisted of four boys and one girl aged 8.6 to 17.2 (average 13.6). ⋯ In paediatric patients, we highly recommend an US examination where it is possible to be carried out to improve the system of decision making. Expectant observation with no nerve exploration is reasonable only in close fractures caused by low-energy trauma. Early surgical nerve exploration related with fracture stabilisation is highly recommended in fractures after high-energy trauma, especially in open fractures and where symptoms of nerve palsy appear at any stage of conservative treatment.

Background: Osteoporotic fractures are associated with a loss of quality of life, but only few patients receive an appropriate therapy. Therefore, the present study aims to investigate the awareness of musculoskeletal patients to participate in osteoporosis assessment and to evaluate whether there are significant differences between acute care patients treated for major fractures of the hip compared to elective patients treated for hip joint replacement.; Methods: From May 2015 to December 2016 patients who were undergoing surgical treatment for proximal femur fracture or total hip replacement due to osteoarthritis and were at risk for an underlying osteoporosis (female > 60 and male > 70 years) were included in the study and asked to complete a questionnaire assessing the awareness for an underlying osteoporosis. ASA Score, FRAX Score, and demographic information have also been examined. ⋯ Patients who underwent acute care surgery for a fragility proximal femur fracture, although acutely affected by the potential consequences of underlying osteoporosis, showed lower awareness than the elective comparison population that was also on average 6.1 years younger. Although elective patients were younger and at a lower risk, they seemed to be much more willing to undergo further osteoporosis assessment. In order to better identify and care for patients at risk, interventions such as effective screening, early initiation of osteoporosis therapy in the inpatient setting and a fracture liaison service are important measures.

Background and Objectives: Taiwan is among the nations with the highest rates of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) and Hypertension (HTN). As more cases are reported each year, there is a rise in hospital admissions for people seeking medical attention. This creates a burden on hospitals and affects the overall management and administration of the hospitals. ⋯ Conclusions: We developed a robust prediction model for LoS and mortality of T2DM and HTN inpatients. Linear Regression showed the best performance for LoS, and Logistic Regression performed the best in predicting mortality. The results showed that ML algorithms can not only help healthcare professionals in data-driven decision-making but can also facilitate early intervention and resource planning.

Background and Objectives: To evaluate the stability of a dental implant and the effectiveness of a newly designed damping capacity assessment device by improving the number of blows and strength evaluated by a prospective clinical study. Materials and Method: The stability of dental implants was measured in 50 implants in a total of 38 patients. Measurements were performed using Anycheck and Periotest M devices, twice in total, divided into buccal and lingual directions. ⋯ No differences were observed in the values according to the measurement direction. Conclusions: The damping capacity of Anycheck was similar to that of Periotest M. After a slight decrease in stability two weeks after implant placement, implant stability increased over time.
